Our offense and defense are both statistically BAD this year. Or, maybe just average. But still - it’s sad.
I went back and looked at our O/D rankings:
When we were great we had top 4/5 Offense and Defense (#1 in some categories).
This year: 70th ranked offense (out of 136 teams)
46th ranked defense (out of 136 teams).
Now, this team could be 7-3 right now and be in possible contention for ACC madness and making the ACCg / Playoff.
But stats don’t lie: we stink. Especially compared to what we have been in the past - heck even last year.
This needs to be Dabo’s biggest offseason since our 6-7 year.

I think he is alluding to the fact that "we're just a couple of plays away" from winning several of the games that we lost.....kinda like the Coots.
Seriously though. With GT it came down to holding them out of field goal range in the final seconds. The Duke loss was a very late very controversial set of plays. LSU...one roughing the passer call set up LSU for the lead. We could just as easily be 8-2 right having lost only two games that were a toss up until the final moments...of course two of those were ACC losses so we would still be a dark horse for the ACC like we were last year. And that right there is the point of the post....even if we had won 3 of the 5 losses, our numbers would not have changed. Clemson is a lower to mid-pack team this year by the numbers no matter what our win loss record says.

We weren’t good enough to make those plays, and we lost, full stop. Nearly every game that has ever been played is a couple of plays away, had that TD been a pick six or they fumbled at the goal line and we took it the other way for 6, or or or.
At the end of the day we let lesser teams (talent wise) hang around when they shouldn’t have and we lost. We are 5-5, there’s no participation trophy for “could have been 8-2”. Stop trying to take a pile of sh*t and tell me it’s just a few ingredients away from a pecan pie.
Dabo needs to get serious, clean house, and get the program back on track with proven experienced coaches and get more serious about the portal for filling real talent gaps on the roster (but not FlSt style roster building)

You should be a more perceptive reader. I was in no way making a case that we should be or even could be 8-2 and therefore not that bad....If you read and percieve... I am saying that even if we had won the fact remains that we are not very good.

Troy - we were a few plays from losing that game.
GT - close but the D couldn't stop the QB run all day. More like a dozen or so plays that game.
SU - what a complete disaster of a game. If we ran 60 plays on Offense, then we were 60 plays away.
Duke - ugh

People forget LSU had a TD taken away from them.... The call on the field was held up, but it was a TD.
That game wasn't close to what the final score was.
You take the good with the bad, but we got a huge gift when they took that TD away from LSU.

2018 Clemson football was 4th in O and 1st in defense
2019: 4th and 3rd
2020: 4th and 18th
2021: 82nd and 2nd
2022: 30th and 22nd
2023: 52nd and 31st
2024: 18th and 51st
2025: 70th and 46th.
If the offense was top 20 this year we’d probably be close to undefeated due to chaos in our conference. LSU was beatable. GT/Duke beatable. SMU / SYR… who knows.

The ACC is hot garbage, if we were in the big 10 or SEC we wouldn’t be sniffing a bowl game this year.
How bad is the ACC? There’s a legitimate shot that JMU who just came up from FCS, will be in the playoffs OVER the ACC champ. That’s how much of a joke our conference is and we could only muster a 500 conference record. So yes, this season is really that bad

And probably beats Louisville if they played now with the injuries Louisville has. If they were undefeated and north Texas was undefeated, both would be ranked top 20. Seems the committee is being very generous to the acc in the rankings tbh. We'll see. If Pitt beats ga tech, it could get interesting.

Dabo will either change or keep doing the same and in 2 to 3 years if no improvement there will be a mutually parting of ways type thing. This is a huge offseason for him I'll sit back and see what happens.

Dont Top 5 Off AND Def usually equate to being good? And middling Off AND Def usually equate to being average?

Go back and look at the preseason rankings and you will see we are not alone. It is 2025 and teams lose every week that some people think should not lose.

That happens every year. It is more pronounced now, for sure. Is there more parity? Yes.
Does PSU, Clemson, Texas belong anywhere near the top like they were supposed to be? Not at all. Texas has a QB that was propped up as the second coming. As did we. I give the press a pass on Texas, no one knew. But Cade is just Cade. Hoped for exponential growth and the absence of early game meltdowns, but braced for the opposite.
Point is: yeah, it’s different now. But it’s not the reason Clemson isn’t a solid team, so saying “everyone is losing some games” is just disingenuous
