I mean maybe but a lot of these kids are mid year enrollees. So why would they go through spring on scholarships if they aren't guaranteed in the fall?

To try and show they can make the lineup the will result in playing time. Some will show they have what it takes, but some just won’t.

This. The depth chart will sort itself out and a few guys will be disappointed and want to go where they can play more.

Is there anything that could stop a transfer from transferring to a particular school as a preferred-walkon, getting an NIL deal and paying their own way until a slot opened up?
If not, I'm surprised we're not seeing this happen more.

Doing just that. There are only 11.7 baseball scholarships so NIL is being used to significantly increase that total.

I doubt any company would make a monetary offer to a walk-on, preferred, or not. JMO

NIL deals are for athletes that play and make a difference. Let's say it this way, if you owned a company would you hire someone through NIL if you had no idea whether he would play or not?

We usually lose a couple to the portal during the spring portal opening.

Last year we lost none coming out of spring practice. Not to say it will be the same this year but there's always the chance we don't lose any.

Or maybe he drops a Swinney son from scholarship and pays for it himself. There would have to be a full scale crow BBQ on TNET if that were to happen.

None of Dabo's sons are on scholarship now. Will left last year, and this past season was Drew's last. Clay is still a walk on.

In the day of nil does a player really need a scholarship? Just say he gets a 2 Mil nil deal. 30,000$ of that covers his Years tuition or whatever. That’s a very small dent.

Is it possible that they aren't counting the covid 6 year guys? And maybe that's why we could get another and stay under the legal 85? Someone correct if wrong.

My guess is that we will lose around 5 or so after the Spring Game. When some see they are buried on the depth chart, they will move to what seems like greener pastures.

No. Covid 6-years are not exceptions to the 85 rule. They count just like everyone else.

I maybe wrong, but I think that I read a while back that the NCAA was going to back off the 85 scholarship rule bc of the scholarships being held up by covid returners....

The NCAA is allowing teams to exceed the 25 annual to get to their 85, but the 85 is hard and fast.
