The GOR is not holding us or the ACC back. The lack of football success by the other 13 teams is holding the conference back.

In fact, the GOR is the only thing keeping the ACC together

Aug 21, 2022, 10:20 PM

And the lack of ACC competitiveness will only grow with a $30 million dollar-plus revenue shortfall on an annual basis in comparison to what will soon be 16 SEC teams, 16 B1G teams, Notre Dame -- even the fourteen Big 12 schools will have a larger TV contract.

Clemson will be competing in 3 years against 47 other college teams who earn significantly more TV revenue. Something will have to change.

How is the GOR not holding Clemson back?
It most definitely is.
Please explain.

And that is never going to change so…. You figure out a way to jump off the sinking ship. What kind of conference has a team that requests a half empty stadium so their little feelings won’t get hurt because the visiting team cares about football and they do not. You wouldn’t even see that crap in the MAC

Maryland had to pay about $31 million

Aug 21, 2022, 10:21 PM

instead of the $50+ million exit fee after they left back in 2014 and countersued the ACC for various reasons including a gray area about the timing of when the rules took effect and UM's intention to leave. The $31 million came from withheld revenue payments. I wonder if their case could be used as precedent for not having to pay the $50 million.

The current GOR was signed after Maryland left the league.***

Good question. I don’t know that anyone on tnet can answer it. I would just like to see the current GOR document. They are doing a great job of keeping it under wraps.

When did FSU become an AAU member? They aren't getting in the Big 10.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It depends...

Aug 22, 2022, 8:45 AM

if the first team through the wall managed to find a loophole in the GOR or if they just decided to pay/negotiate the exit fee.

If a loophole is identified, I think there is a strong likelihood that you'd see a mass exodus. This is the reason why I firmly believe schools like FSU, UNC, Miami and Clemson should be pooling their resources and working cooperatively and collaboratively to identify an out.

It is only nullified if half of the teams leave. I do believe that will happen in the next 2-3 years UNLESS Jim Phillips pulls a robot out of the hat and gets the TV contract renegotiated to a more competitive number.
