What's a cool grandfather name for them to call me? I'm not ready for the whole grandfather thing (I'm still a kid, myself - only 55!), but Grandpa sounds too old, and I not partial to PawPaw or Poppy something similar. I'm not hip enough for G-Dad or G-Daddy. Maybe something unique - kinda cool, but yet respectful like grandfathers should be, but not old and stodgy, like I remember my grandfather being. My grandfathers were Granddaddy and Poppa. I'm kinda partial to Pops.

My great grandfather went by "Pop" and so I've always been partial to that. I think it's classic and simple. I personally don't love some of these wacky grandparent names but whenever I become a grandfather I think "Pop" is the way I'll go.

My grandkids call me Pops, and, true story, it was Tajh Boyd that first called me that. He knew my daughter because she was the Tiger Cub mascot and I had also met him professionally when called on me at the last plant I managed in Asheville when he was selling packaging supplies right after graduating. One Saturday before a game in 2017 or 2018, my daughter ran into Tajh at the Esso Club and he asked her “How’s Pops doing? Is he still in Asheville?” We were expecting our first grandchild at that time and Papa was my preference but that was already taken by the child’s other grandfather who already had other grandkids. So Pops it is.

I'm papa, but then old enough to be ok with it. My first cousin's husband was named Jack, so their grandchildren called him J-pa (Jaypah). I liked that.

He was 59 when I was born, but I was his fourth grandson. Anything but stodgy…he was a veteran, a veterinarian, and an avid outdoorsman. Go with Pops.

I am GT. first name George, nickname Trip. Also Grandpa Trip to give me GT. Granddaughter graduated HS this year and none of the 6 grands know me as anything else.
