he is set to get a 60 million dollar buyout. If he goes to another school to coach, how much of that does he get to keep ??

Let's hope not. Dabo Swinney has changed the entire culture of Clemson for better. He promotes those things that are important for college football. If we fire Dabo, Clemson will slowly fade into mediocracy. The outside voices, like Finebaum, who want Dabo fired, do not want Clemson to do well. Do we need to make some adjustments? Probably, but we must not fire Coach Swinney.

I am not calling for Dabo to be fired per se. However, the 60 million is a big factor in making that decision. My question is - Is it really 60 million if he coaches elsewhere ?

The buyout would be lessened depending on his new contract at his new school. Though I think that also depends on how long he is "unemployed". For instance if he sits out a whole year I think he would retain the entire buyout.

If another school hires him away, its only $4M unless it's Bama. There's an additional $2M if they hire him. I don't believe Dabo would want to pay Clemson a buyout, so they will have to fire him. Further, I don't see anyone interested in hiring Coach Swinney away from Clemson because his culture is not a win at all cost culture.

Thanks for the info. Amazing how people can lose their minds over the mention of firing - and miss the main question altogether.
This seems a weird way to structure a contract. Given the financial rewards involved, a less principled, greedier coach might sign a similar contract, proceed to run a program into the ground, get fired (and get millions) - then move on to another multi-million dollar job and keep both huge stacks of cash.
I know Dabo would never do this, but I can think of a few coaches (and CEOs) who would - for tens and tens of millions of dollars.
