If a student on academic scholarship like Palmetto Fellows

Aug 4, 2012, 12:54 PM

gets arrested for marijuana, DUI, etc...

Does that student lose his scholarship? I'd assume it would depend on where the scholarship money came from.

You can take a course to get it erased from your record and get to keep your scholarship.

Correct. If you get it expunged through PTI

And take an additional class Clemson makes you take then it does not affect your scholarship. You get 1 mulligan for all 4 years. Screw up again and you lose the scholarship permanently. There are a lot of students who got MPIs their freshman year walking on eggshells until they turn 21.

Absolutely not ... You have to be convicted

Aug 4, 2012, 4:47 PM

to lose your scholarship. Thats why a student should never plead guilty to any alcohol or drug charge no matter how much evidence they have on you. I have known college students who were arrested in their sophomore and junior years who were able to hold off a DUI or simple possession charge until after graduation so they could plead guilty the next week.

Yes - you do have to be convicted but

they scare the mess out of you on the first arrest so PTI is tempting. But you're right - I would choose PTI for the first but if I got stopped again I would fight it. All the coot talk about cops in Clemson going easy on the players is BS and Sammy is proof of that. They patrol looking for parties and they start giving out tickets to anyone in the room under 21 without regard for who they are.

No you do not. I am one of them.

You get 2 opportunities with AEP and PTI.
