New idea for conference re-alignment

May 17, 2012, 11:07 PM

Re-alignment by mascots, for example, we'd be in the "cats" conference with LSU, Missouri, Kansas St, Kentucky, Northwestern, Arizona, Auburn, Houston, Penn St, BYU and Pitt.

SCu would be in the "poultry", or bird conference, with VaTech, Air Force, Oregon, Kansas, Louisville, BC, Southern Miss, Stanford, Rice and Temple

Makes as much sense as us in the Big 12 or Boise in the Big East.

Others would include:

"Reptiles" with Florida, TCU, and Maryland

"Weather" with Miami(Fl), Alabama, Tulsa, Tulane, and Kent St

"Food Network featuring red meat" with Texas, Arkansas, Colorado, UNC, Buffalo, Marshall, Baylor, UCLA, Cal and Nebraska(need a starch)

"Condom" with USC and Troy

"Varment" with Minnesota, Michigan, Oregon St and Wisconsin

"Good and Evil" with Wake, Duke and Arizona St, Wake's a little conflicted here

"Cowboys and Indians" with FSU, Utah, Illinois, OKst, Wyoming, San Diego St, Colorado St, Hawaii, and Texas Tech

Also throw in the "Canine" conference, the "Human" conference, the "What the H*ll is that" conference(featuring Syracuse, Western Kentucky, UAB, Texas A&M, Utah St, and Akron) and conference re-alignment is solved. More importantly ESPN is screwed.

Stanford's nickname is the school's color, not a bird.

May 18, 2012, 2:11 AM

The nickname for Stanford is the Cardinal – in reference to one of the school colors (and is therefore in the singular). Stanford’s history with its nickname began on March 19, 1891 when Stanford beat Cal in the first Big Game. While Stanford did not have an official nickname, the day after the Big Game local newspapers picked up the "cardinal" theme and used it in the headlines.

Although Cardinal wasn't officially the nickname until '81

They went from 1930-72 being known as the Indians.

And their mascot is a tree***

Actually Stanford doesn't have a mascot

May 18, 2012, 8:15 AM

The tree is their band's mascot and people obviously sometimes tie it to the school, but the school does not recognize it.

That Redwood is embossed on the Stadium just like our Paw

May 18, 2012, 8:53 AM

I can see it from.my window.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well the Redwood isn't there mascot and the paw isn't ours***

SCU would only drag down their academics anyway

May 18, 2012, 8:35 AM [ in reply to Stanford's nickname is the school's color, not a bird. ]

so we'll move them to the "What the h*ll is that" conference

You left out the "Fighting Irish" of Notre Dame.
Even the legendary actor John (the Duke) Wayne fought an Irishman in the 1952 movie "The Quiet Man".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They would be included in the "Human" conference,

May 18, 2012, 8:33 AM

although we could change the name of "Cowboys and Indians" to "Cowboys and offensive stereotypes" and include them there

Best idea yet***

I'd love to see where you would put UC Santa Cruz

May 18, 2012, 10:04 AM

The fighting Banana Slugs.

Re: I'd love to see where you would put UC Santa Cruz

May 18, 2012, 10:19 AM

Or Delta State who are the Fighting Okra.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Santa Cruz would go with GaTech in the "insect" league

May 19, 2012, 12:29 PM

Delta St could be the greens in Food Network
