Dabo on the roar

Dabo just said on the roar this team is way better than the 2021 team. He said he was scared the offense in 2021 "wouldn't get a first down." He is now discussing the turnover issues, and says they have been in a position to win every game.
Dabo has also said multiple times the team is very good and talented, just cannot stop making the same mistakes.
He is emphasizing the journey this team has been on, and he says there time will come eventually. One thing I can say is I am very happy Dabo Swinney is the head coach at Clemson. I know this season has been rough, but I truly believe the future of Clemson football is going to be just fine. He will make the necessary adjustments I believe.

I am as frustrated as any Clemson fan with how this season has gone. However, take it from a guy that has been a fan a long time it could be worse. I was a student during the Hatfield/West days and it was worse.
Things are NEVER as bad as they seem or as great as they seem. The truth lies somewhere in between.
Is change coming after this season? Dabo has not called me to discuss this, but I would say that there has to be some assistant coaching changes after the season. O-line, receivers, RBs - I would not be surprised if 1 or all of these guys get replaced. Just changing the O-line coach and bringing in an experienced coach improves this offense A LOT.
The defense is not immune to criticism as this group has failed the team on several occasions this season. Too much talent to get repeatedly punched in the mouth Saturday and not respond. This defense reflects the meek persona of its coordinator. You do not replace a legend with an analyst and expect the same results. Not at all sure we have the best D-line coaches available. Our D-lines used to take games over and dominate. Current D-line talent equal to some of our best but they are getting pushed around all over the field when it matters most.
The core group of talent is in place for this to be a really good team. The much needed upgrade to the receiver position is coming if Dabo can work his magic and keep the recruiting class together.
Dabo needs to utilize the portal and bring in some help. We are going to need help along the D-line and we could always use some experience along the O-line. How about a kicker? Weitz is done after this season.
Dabo knows what it takes to win. He literally built the Clemson program from nothing. If Dabo uses all the options available to him he can right this ship quickly.

You make some really good points. I think some people don't realize how hard it is to be a playoff contender every single year. There are going to be highs and lows in every program, but I really do believe things will trend in the right direction again soon.

I think he would be a Great coordinator in the booth and not on the sidelines. I can’t imagine if I was a hard nose linebacker or lineman and after I made a bad play coming over and getting chewed out by a baby face dwarf! Not really going to motivate me to do better!

Hatfield made about $650,000 a year, adjusted for inflation. Swinney makes around $11,000,000 a year. So of course the expectations will be higher. Right now I'm not worried about the playoffs...I just want to beat someone. A real someone. A quality football program. We haven't done that in a long while.

Hatfield never won any big games either. We gotta suffer through this year, it is what it is theres no over night fix for this team. I think Dabo has shown us time and time again he wont stand by idle. I expect major changes this offseason once recruiting is wrapped up. I just hope riley gets to have input on the staff changes impending.

That’s an asinine statement. Expectations for Hatfield’s first year were national championship. Danny had put together arguably his most talented group ever. I was one of the first to start booing the Hatfield on field product. Two games a coach cannot lose at clemson; 29-0 all time against UVA (loss) and SC (loss). Hatfield took a national championship caliber team and backed into an ACC championship.

It’s not hard to understand Clemson fans having a level of devotion for a coach who got us to six straight college football Final Fours and brought home two national championships. You’ll never know what that feels like, so I totally get your confusion.
That said, the level of rationization and outright delusional sounding stuff coming out of his mouth this season is disconcerting. Some of that is just “Dabo being Dabo”; but he has to begin to address some of the obvious issues and stop talking about how hard it is to win. For $11M a year he needs to figure it out - FAST.

I totally agree that a person that gets paid almost a million dollars a month should always have the right answer for anything that was happening within their job that they are being paid that much money to do, and if they don't have the right answer or the perfect solution, that is a crystal clear sign that they're being paid way too much $$$$$$...

Guess I struck a nerve.
If you weren’t on the Hill in the rain for two hours prior to kickoff before the 88 FSU game, and if you weren’t rushing the field after Treadwell beat UGA the year before and if you weren’t in the stands for every home AND road game supporting the Tigers for the entire time the ACC screwed us on probation — and I bet you weren’t around for any of those — you can shove your coot comment right up the orifice from which you were born. Sincerely.

Why are so many of you so hung up on the salary? Win 2 titles in three years and you are going to be rewarded. Would you rather we have not won them? Sheesh, a little introspection would go a long way with some of you.

Yep. I called it earlier this morning on Brad’s show and they were lukewarm about it, but I an more sure than ever. The winning combination for Clemson Football was Brent Venables tough No-Nonsense-commitment to win at any cost coupled with Dabo’s eternal optimism. They guys thought I was just talking about defense but Brents attitude covered the assistants and offense as well. Dabo still has the optimism, but our Sheriff left town for Oklahoma and we need a new one in town.

That's a good point. I think Wes has done fine this year, but he's not going to be the guy moving forward. You got to have a good on-field coach who isn't afraid to chew someone out. I have no doubts Wes is a great x's and o's guys, but sometimes a good butt chewing is the only thing needed for a player.

He probably realized they missed on some guys in recruiting, and had some holes in the offense yet to be filled. I think this explains the timing of bringing in a guy like Garrett Riley, he believes all the pieces to have an elite offense are there now.

No doubt I think this team is better than the 2021 team

that team was the worst offensive team i've ever seen at Clemson. DJU threw 9 TD passes all year.
This squad looked great early on offensively especially in the passing game against Miami. I liked teh deep shots especially if our guys could time their jumps better. Nobody should be able to body up #80 on the outside. He just jumps too early. Randall looked motivated early. I was hoping that would continue.
We were better than them but our problem is that when we get pinched and the pressure is on we start folding it up. Nobody is level headed. Cade started forcing balls to Briningstool late and just needed to throw to other players that were probably open. We just are very immature. Fumbling on the goalline 4 times this year is unheard of and just lazy play.
We can move the ball but we can't ever finish anything. Started against tennessee last year in that bowl game. Should've been a point of emphasis in the offense to figure out a redzone offense. Its been a crazy year. I just have to laugh sometimes at how snakebit we are.

I don't doubt he will stop now. I am in awe when I see people posting garbage about the game passed Dabo. They said that about Saban but he's still here. Guys like Spurrier, Dabo, Saban, etc... are the ones who get emulated.

Saban adapted and kept winning.
Dabo hasn’t yet adapted and is resistant to any change.
Very different reactions and outcomes.

Saban has been the model of adaptability. I don't think I have ever heard someone say the game has passed him by.

The game has never passed Saban. He adapted from having a game manager QB to an athletic QB, he used the portal to plug holes. He may complain about things, but it doesn't stop him from adapting in order to stay competitive. Dabo hasn't done all of that yet.

Why is Dabo worrying about comparing teams instead of working on solving today's problems. 2023 should be what the focus is on and what matters , the rest is for the history books and reminiscing over a glass of fine Bourbon.
College football , in particular CLEMSON football has given me much joy over the years and I admit the struggles this year hurt bad but the truth is that it's all just entertainment for us fans and Lord knows I love it BUT losing the love of my life, Miss Mary, to COVID after 47 years my wife , now that hurt and that was important . I'm not whinning as God blessed me those 47 years with her and oh yea Miss Mary was one helluva Tiger Fan too. Just saying everything is gonna be ok. Go Tigers !!

Dabo is never going to change. Clemson is doomed. He’s not going to fire his friends and former players

Saying we are doomed is a bit of an exaggeration. He fired one of his good friends to try and improve the offense, so I believe he will make the necessary adjustments after the season.

I admire your optimism. But Dabo’s public comments in the past 2 1/2 yrs have changed. Our program has been going down hill for more than 2.5 yrs. His steadfast refusal to change with the times may be the death of him. He re-invented college football and took us to the top. But others have caught up and with nil and the portal they have passed us. I would love to think he will fix things but I am not seeing signs that he will.

Dabo is correct that we have been in position to win EVERY game. No team has kicked us up and down the field all night but if you say Duke, maybe you can make that argument. Clemson has beat Clemson every game, sure the other teams deserve credit for their efforts but when it comes down to it, we did it to ourselves.
It feels much better to win but I love my Tigers no matter how it goes. I'm just puzzled when the ball control issues started? Was it last year, I forget which game when Sh1p dropped a simple pass?

True, We have been competitive in every game, but that isn't saying a whole lot.
We should be dominating these teams, with the possible exception of FSU. We aren't exactly playing the cream of the College Football crop

That's really true about any good team that loses. 4-3 nc st can make that same argument less the ND game.

Yea you’re right. The bottom line is that elite teams don’t lead the nation in fumbles. Most of Cades fumbles seem to be a direct result of how sporadic he plays. I think that kid downs 5 monster energy drinks before each game. He will be a great QB when he can calm down and just play. I think he will step up in a big way next year.

Very tough bad ### players win games. If you don’t agree with that you don’t know football. Football IS NOT a finesse game. It’s a game of tough guys willing to knock the “shyatt out of the opponents and then not say”excuse me”!
Clemson does not have this kind of players. Choir boy get their #### handed to them much to often. .
Play big boy football Dabo. For heavens sake,!!!
