for all the hate he gets...

Nov 7, 2014, 10:36 AM

CS won four games w/o slipping up in DW's absence. 7-2 is better than 6-3 or 5-4. Good throw, bad throw, good read, bad read, etc... doesn't matter. He asked for a shot to play through pain, refused to come out, and won 4 games.

End of the day, he got the job done. Period.

I would argue that our defense got the job done. Not Cole. Heck before last night he had 2 TDs and 5 interceptions in the past 3 games. That isn't getting the job done. That is hurting your team.

I appreciate his effort though, but I completely disagree. What you are seeing is a #### good defense stepping up to the plate

I've said it already and I'll say it again ...

Nov 7, 2014, 10:41 AM

The D didn't put 34 points on the board.

Re: I've said it already and I'll say it again ...

Nov 7, 2014, 10:49 AM

Ok...you took one game out of the 4

The defense won the Syracuse, UL, and BC games despite Cole Stoudt. There....have at it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

so... you think if Schuessler plays those games

Nov 7, 2014, 10:50 AM

we win?

btw... i don't think you're "hating" on Cole at all. I'm just not sure I agree with you on this one.

Yes.

understood...

Nov 7, 2014, 10:54 AM

like I said... I don't think you're "hating" on Cole at all... I'm just not sure I agree.

No probs

So Cole did not play well enough to win the last 4 games?

Nov 7, 2014, 10:51 AM [ in reply to Re: I've said it already and I'll say it again ... ]

Is that what you are saying?

I would point you to our 4-0 record in said games.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Because at the end of the game, everyone knew that they weren’t that much better than us or better than us at all."

Re: So Cole did not play well enough to win the last 4 games?

Nov 7, 2014, 10:54 AM

Yep. We are 4-0. Our defense really stepped up. I mean really really really stepped up. 4-0 during that time span with all of the injuries is great.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So he played well enough to win or not?

Nov 7, 2014, 10:58 AM

Still not clear on that.

No hard feelings, I just don't agree with your overall assessment.

What you see is...

Nov 7, 2014, 10:42 AM [ in reply to Re: for all the hate he gets... ]

a kid playing adequately despite his pain. Your statement is illogical unless the defense scores more points that the opponent.

My statement is illogical until the defense scores more points than our opponents?????? Are you serious brett?

That is not the case at all, but I will play your game. In the UL game our defense actually did score more points than Cole Stoudt.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: What you see is...

Nov 7, 2014, 10:55 AM

When the QB leads the team down the field and gets them into field goal range... I think that helps with putting points on the board.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i don't disagree with you about the defense

Nov 7, 2014, 10:43 AM [ in reply to Re: for all the hate he gets... ]

but at the end of the day, he led us down the field for important points in those games, whether it was FG or TDs...

could it have been better? Absolutely. But a win's a win, and someone has to take the snaps.

Dude lost his job early in the season

Nov 7, 2014, 10:46 AM [ in reply to Re: for all the hate he gets... ]

and took it like a man. He then came in when his number was called and played well enough to win the last 4 games. Was it always pretty? No. Is he Joe Montana? No. He also rubbed some dirt on a pretty significant shoulder injury, which I find d@mn impressive.

I would have to agree with that sentiment

Nov 7, 2014, 10:47 AM [ in reply to Re: for all the hate he gets... ]

We had no other better option and he sucked it up and played just good enough to get 4 W's - which really is all that matters at the end of the day.

At the same time - now that DW is coming back - I hope CS does not see the field again unless we have a 3 TD lead.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I would have to agree with that sentiment

Nov 7, 2014, 10:50 AM

What do you want if Watson gets hurt again ??

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Cole - of course.

Nov 7, 2014, 11:01 AM

However, I hope DW plays every snap the rest of the year and Cole is not needed.

Proud of him for what he did for the team but honestly - I have seen all of CS that I hope to see this year (outside of mop up).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're right of course.

Nov 7, 2014, 10:51 AM [ in reply to Re: for all the hate he gets... ]

Some just think it's inappropriate to admit it publicly.

Don't mistake legitimate criticism for hate.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So you agree that Cole gutting out 4 wins with a busted

Nov 7, 2014, 10:53 AM

shoulder should be considered hurting his team?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Because at the end of the game, everyone knew that they weren’t that much better than us or better than us at all."

I guess my question is what's the point?

Nov 7, 2014, 10:57 AM [ in reply to You're right of course. ]

I mean, I understand the discussions of the games. Breaking them down, talking about how players performed. That's all cool, of course.

But what's the point of the repeated criticisms of him? While I don't really have a problem with the ones sticking to discussion of plays, it has gone well beyond that at times (as example the thread below celebrating he won't start for us again and taking shots at him).

Just so we're all clear, NO ONE thinks he is an amazing QB. NO ONE is saying he's gonna go down as the best in college history. Heck NO ONE at this point thinks he's anywhere near the talented QB as Watson. However, he is our QB in these games. He suits up, doesn't complain either about the injury or the benching, goes out there and competes for our entertainment. And for that he deserves our respect.

And he deserves the credit for the wins as much as anyone on the field. He's a Tiger. When the Tigers win, he wins. Period.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just like all of the players and coaches on our team, he

Nov 7, 2014, 11:01 AM

deserves the credit for what he does well and he deserves the criticism for those things he doesn't. Do some go too far? Yes. But, he didn't play "well" last night. He missed a ton of open plays, but it was good enough to beat a ### sorry Wake team.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Cole didn't win those games ... nor did the defense

Nov 7, 2014, 11:03 AM [ in reply to Re: for all the hate he gets... ]

Clemson won those games, and that's how history will see it.

Nov 7, 2014, 11:03 AM [ in reply to Re: for all the hate he gets... ]

I'd say that's getting it done. Not excellent but nobody says he's excellent. Was it good enough? Yes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

COLE! COLE! COLE! COLE!

Nov 7, 2014, 10:41 AM

WE LOVE COLE PARTAY!!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Definitely wasn't always pretty but you are right, wins are

Nov 7, 2014, 10:45 AM

wins and he is 4-0 during the stretch due in large part to our D though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He got the job done, but the job requirements were

Nov 7, 2014, 10:54 AM

made a whole lot easier by the play of the defense. If this were the 2012 defense we probably lose 3 of the 4 games (might still have beaten Wake). How would everyone feel then? Average defense not playing tremendous, but playing well enough to keep us in games, but Cole and offense failing to get the job done on a weekly basis. Would be quite different around here i bet.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i didn't attach an (*) to the post...

Nov 7, 2014, 10:56 AM

He absolutely benefited from our defense... There is no question about that. But, at the end of the day, kid gutted out an injury week after week in order to play well enough to win games.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

FWIW though I'm not sure Cole deserves even half the

Nov 7, 2014, 11:00 AM

blame for the struggling offense. Our OL play has been dreadful and the inability to run the ball as a result has made things that much harder for Cole. The fact that Watson was able to excel behind that line is just a testament to what an incredible talent he is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

your point about inability to run is the key

Nov 7, 2014, 11:01 AM

that aspect alone would make a huge difference for him

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

He's the opposite of Kyle Parker

Nov 7, 2014, 10:57 AM

he had talent but was way non-clutch.

Cole doesn't have much talent but is pretty clutch. We have made some good drives in the 4th quarter when we needed it.

But man, there are big plays to be had that Cole just isn't able to hit, and we wouldn't need to be clutch in the 4thQ.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would say the defense had a little

about giving 100% of the credit for the wins to Cole and none to the defense.
