just look at the record:
2017 - Probably should have won the NC. Definitely a contender.
2018 - Lost to Bama in SECCG. Probably 3rd best team in the country. Definitely a contender.
2019- Got smoked by LSU in SECCG (like everyone else). Definitely a contender.
2020 - Lost to eventual NC Bama and UF. Not a contender.
2021 - NC

We’ll agree to disagree. IMO if you can’t win your conference you are not a contender. Unless you get the pass that Notre Dame gets by not being in a conference.

I would consider them a perennial contender moving forward. They may have a rebuilding year here and there, but they will be pretty stacked year after year. JMO
