Recruiting This Week Pt. 1: VISITS ARE BACK!!!

May 31, 2021, 9:27 AM

-It has been over 14 months since recruits were able to visit college campuses to make some of the most important decisions in their life. However, tomorrow will mark what is sure to be the craziest month in recruiting history. Recruits from three different classes will make their way to college campuses around the country. As such I will attempt to keep y’all updated as best as possible. With that said I am going to stop babbling and get to the info because we have a lot to get too today.

-Tomorrow is June 1st and the Dabo Swinney Camp will not begin until June 2nd. However, some major targets will still be on campus. Here are those names:

-5* top 10 overall player DE Jeremiah Alexander out of Alabama will be at Clemson on June 1st. I would peg Clemson as running second tied with UGA at the moment behind Bama. Clemson has done an absolutely tremendous job in this recruitment to get Alexander’s attention, and they may very well be equal with Bama at the moment. I still think that they are running second, but I am going to have to see Alexander leave the state for me to believe it. UGA gets a visit the day after Clemson and UCF gets an official next weekend, simply because the new coaching recruited him while they were at Auburn. Alexander will not decide until later in the cycle and this trip will obviously be to impress him, but also to ensure that Clemson is able to secure an official later in the Fall.

-Mauldin LB Deuce Caldwell will also be at Clemson the first day of June. Caldwell does not hold an offer from Clemson. While Caldwell played safety for Mauldin, he is teammates with major CB target Jeadyn Lukus, Clemson sees him as more of a LB. Whether he will get an offer remains to be seen, but he will not likely be working according to Caldwell himself. UNC is set to get an official June 15th, also will visit U of SC and Duke. I think that if Clemson offered it would be hard for him to say no. He may not decide for a few months so an offer may not come immediately.

-Another LB for this class will be at Clemson the same day and stay overnight into Wednesday in search of an offer. Kansas LB Jaren Kanak. Kanak may be one of the hottest targets in the country over the last few weeks after he posted insane track times. He is slated to workout at the Dabo Swinney Camp on Wednesday. A lot of teams have taken notice and his schedule has become quite compact. He will take an official to Nebraska on June 6th, Michigan sometime in the middle/early June, Bama gets an official on June 18th, and then Iowa or Texas Tech will get an official on June 25th. That would leave one official left, presumably for Clemson if the recruitment lasts that long. Whenever Bama gets involved you have to take notice, but I believe that Clemson controls this recruitment, based on what I have heard. He may not commit on the spot like I had predicted if Clemson were to offer now with all these visits planned, but I still feel that an offer from Clemson would be hard to turn down for Kanak, and let’s just say that I believe Kanak will most likely get that offer. Remember that another LB target will camp at Clemson on Thursday in Demario Tolan. I will talk about him more there, and by then we should know if one of the other two have an offer.

-There will also be a couple major targets for the class of 23’.

-Clemson’s lone offer for the class of 23’ is Avieon Terrell; he will be at Clemson June 1st. He is the brother of AJ Terrell, and he was able to attend the Spring Game. He obviously has high interest in Clemson and is very familiar with the program. He recently went to FSU’s Spring Game, who did not as there were over 100 recruits there, and he will return there June 5th. I would also imagine that UGA and Florida get looks as well some time this June.

-A Georgia legacy will also be on campus. RB Justice Haynes will be at Clemson on Tuesday as well, his father, Verron Hayens, played for Georgia just FYI. CJ has laid the foundation here and Haynes seems interested, but I am going to have to see how the visit goes before I believe that this does not turn into a UGA vs. Bama battle as many RB battles do. He will see UGA June 2nd, Bama June 3rd, OSU June 7th, Stanford June 19th, ND June 21st, and LSU June 22nd. All the big boys are out for this one.

-I have mentioned 23” LB Drayk Bowen multiple times as a guy that seems really interested in Clemson. He is from Indiana, so ND is obviously pushing hard. He has been quoted as saying that Clemson and ND were the teams coming hardest. He will be at Clemson on June 9th, ND, OSU, U of SC, Ole Miss, Michigan, and Bama will all get visits in June.

- I have spoken about Clemson’s CB recruiting at length and Clemson is set to host another target in late July. Azareyeh Thomas will be at Clemson the only weekend that recruits are allowed to visit in July, the weekend of July 24th. Besides Clemson, LSU, Florida, and GaTech will all get officials, while Clemson’s will obviously be unofficial.

-It is worth noting that I do not expect Thomas will be the only recruit who enjoys the hot dogs and hamburgers that weekend, cough cough :), as the grills should be fired up to welcome a number of big time recruits, including#1 class of 23’ player Lebbeus Overton, just breaking that news before other outlets.

-I will do my best to remind y’all of who will be visiting and where Clemson stands throughout the week.

-Last but certainly not least, say a prayer today and everyday for those men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice and those who are still serving today prepared to give that sacrifice, an unknown author once wrote “Our flag does not fly because the wind blows it-It flies with the last breath of every soldier who died defending it”. Thank you to all who served and are currently serving.

-And as always have a great and blessed week Tigernation!!

I meant to add that I will have an Arch Manning update later this week, and it seems that the tide in that recruitment may be turning orange and red.

Have we shown any interest in Ohio State transfer safety, Tyreke Johnson?

I have not heard his name mentioned at all. Clemson had offered him during his recruitment, let me check around and I will reply late tonight/tomorrow morning with a more definitive answer.

Thanks for the update. I really feel like some extra depth at safety would help now that UGA just got Arik Gilbert.

It's to late to pray for those that died in action serving this country. We can pray for their families and the ones serving now.

our numbers and at what position we take in the 2022 class. I've read we may cap the class at 15 or 16.

Re: I would be interested in your estimate of the

May 31, 2021, 5:53 PM

I would go with a 17-19 range with the most likely number being 18:

QB:1

RB: 1

WR:3(2)

OL: 2 (3) A chance they take a PWO.

DE: 2

DT: 2

LB: 1

CB: 3 (2)

S: 1

K: 1

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Interesting no Delp or Skinner.

May 31, 2021, 9:45 PM

If we can't get the right RB, I would rather take another OL or WR.

Re: Interesting no Delp or Skinner.

May 31, 2021, 10:11 PM

I am sorry man that is my bad I left the TE spot out, Clemson would still like to take one this cycle as well. I will have an update on Delp as he is visiting this week, and Skinner may also visit Sunday, but who knows with him.

-I agree with your sentiment though, if you miss on either TE OR RB delegate that to either WR or CB, whichever Clemson only has two spots for.

Curious if you know anything about Xavier Nwankpa He’s evidently a 4 star 23 safety from southeast Polk in Iowa. According to Xavier Clemson is in his top 5 but I’ve not read anything on your postings about him. Thanks much. Not many Iowa kids get Tiger offers.

Re: Recruiting This Week Pt. 1: VISITS ARE BACK!!!

Jun 1, 2021, 7:09 PM

He is for the class of 22. I do not know of any visit plans to Clemson at this point. I would point to OSU, ND, and A&M as leaders there. I would personally pick OSU, I think the staff realized that was a long shot and focused in on Branch, Sabb, and Covil.

Jun 1, 2021, 8:32 PM

Thanks Paw as usual. To address Xavier - what I understood (which ain't much) is he put our name out there but wasn't going to camp with us and hasn't made the effort to take an unofficial... Would be a good get but got to be more effort by a kids interest. Just my 02 cents.

Jun 1, 2021, 8:52 PM

I agree Clemgal, I think that he is taking officials in June which we are not offering, if he were to let his recruitment go until the Fall then maybe Clemson would get an official, but the other three schools are ahead of Clemson now.
