The vanilla playbook isn't the only issue with Riley. The bigger problem is he just doesn't know how to call plays....it's almost as if he's guessing 80% of the time

Georgia game is something different. But, the win over Michigan was called great.

1. Sonny Dykes, not Garrett Riley, was the brains behind TCU’s offensive success.
AND/OR
2. Riley isn’t allowed the freedom to call plays like he wants to, because Dabo restricts him to running the “Clemson offense.”
It is highly unlikely that neither of these are true. Does anyone really believe that Riley was a genius at TCU but forgot how to run an offense at Clemson?

The only thing I think may be true is something is being limited
And it looks like playcalling. Because there have been 2 sides of the offense. Fast and slow. Slow doesn’t work so well, but tempo has shown to help our offense mask its blocking issues when there are plays drawn out that take time to develop. The slow version will then be complimentary when needed.
The “Clemson offense” I thought was aggressive and attacking. I cannot connect the dots as to why tempo offense first was abandoned for the first 2 games. And since DJ. After last year and the problems they dealt with that same issue. Like Louisville down by 19 points.

I do not think you are watching the same games. We had 12 dropped balls against LSU, and the O-line graded out in the low 60's. The same was true against Troy; the O-line was Abysmal, and the backs were not helping. If you look at how Troy scored their points, we had a starting linebacker go out because his helmet came off. Only on the next play did we see their QB isolate a RB against our back-up linebacker omn a wheel route and make a 1 in 10 throw over his shoulder for the touchdown. We got the running game going, only to have Randall fumble the ball and turn what could have been a scoring drive into a situation that flipped field position and ultimately led to their field goal. Their 2nd TD was a fluke. The offense was out of sync in the first half because we could not block to save our lives, and our QB is playing spooked.
If you want to get on Riley's case, then it would be in-game adjustments before half time and having this team ready to play. If the offense looks Vanilla, it is cause we do not have our ducks in a row and are still trying to execute even the most basic of plays with little success. We saw this last year, the offense sputtered when we went up against stronger defenses, and we thought we had it solved when we played Texas, but that was more a matter of Klubnik playing way over his head, which lead to unrealistic expectations coming into this year. Watch Stanford, Pitt, Louisville, SCU, same issues persisted last year, and it more often than not came down to poor o-line play, and at times poor decisions by Klubnick under pressure.

If we can’t execute the most basic football tasks like blocking and getting the ball to wide open players - against Troy no less - it is unclear what our coaching staff has been doing all this time.

I’m starting to see it’s not Riley. 75% of it is Cade missing what’s right in front of him. Riley is getting him wide open receivers and Cade just isn’t seeing them or reading the defense correctly.

I just hope our OC will recognize what GT defense is doing, and take what they are giving. The last two teams have been playing our WRs tight and up, daring us to pass deep. We need to hold blocks long enough to hot those routes.

But you can’t tell me huddling all game was the best we can do
Because as soon as they picked up for the final drive, things go swimmingly. Same as any other time that’s happened in the last couple years.

Why didn’t he open it for LSU
He did but Cade threw to the covered receiver instead of the guy who was wide open. Amazing we have fans who think a different play call will overcome poor execution.

Don't think there's anything in the playbook that every one in the USA, Canada and the EU hasn't seen. Is Riley running anything from the TCU scheme or is it all from the worn out CU playbook? Dabo did say he was brought in to run the "Clemson" offense.

The best play caller in the world ain't gonna make the boys make the proper reads and execute.
Looking at the replay, the plays called would work if you throw to the open receiver. Or you pick up the blocks.
Play calling hasn't been the problem thus far into the season.

How can he open up the playbook when his most experienced players aren’t executing the basics? Cade is not seeing wide open receivers, his timing is way off, and he is making awful reads. O-line has had some really bad MA’s. Randall not waiting on blockers(although he still looks pretty good).
The playbook isn’t the issue, it’s the lack of execution.
I thought it was Riley too, after watching the tape, it’s the players.

The offense is vanilla because Cade cant handle complex route trees.
Dude has a hard enough time pulling the trigger on throws to wide open WR's that he is looking at.

Riley is not the issue. Wide receivers are open and Cade is not seeing them or pulling the trigger late. This issue is only more frustrating when you realize Half of Cades issue is the OL is struggling and the few times it doesn’t, Cade gets happy feet because he can’t trust his line under pressure. Yes we have much less pre snap motion that TCU had, but the talent is night and day difference, we should be able to win without all the trickery, just need a decent OL and the QB just to play game manager. A Carson beck type of performance, nothing flashy, just gets the ball out where it needs to go.
