ACC Media Docs Released to State of Florida

In the heavily redacted document, I see on page 67 it appears to show the media rights running out in June of 2027, unless I misunderstand. It's a long document and I haven't tried to read it all, but that would mean, at the least, the ACC would have the ability to renegotiate and restructure our very poor media deal at that time, which is much sooner than the commish has led us to believe.

I'll let the lawyers figure it out.

I've seen a couple of people try to explain it. But, I'm not sure exactly what they are trying to say.
My hope/guess/wish/speculation/whatever is that this is just another small step in increasing the pressure on the ACC to go ahead and settle.
All I'm pretty sure of is this:
ESPN has until Feb 25 to decide if they want to continue the contract from June 27 to June 36. If they decide not to extend, then the contract between ACC and ESPN ends June 27.
Hopefully, I'll hear (on a youtube podcast) from an attorney who is keeping up with this and can give an explanation of what the release of the redacted documents means and what it doesn't.

I really don't understand all of the "secrets" (redactions). It's not like college football is a new product. College teams play sports, networks broadcast the sports, and money is exchanged. The amount of money is widely talked about.
So what's the secret(s)? Certainly they wouldn't write personal kickbacks into the contract.

The ACC actually has a good media deal for the conference as a whole. Your thought that we can renegotiate and get more money is false IMO. The reason is the ACC has two teams who draw viewers on a national basis and few schools with giant alumni bases, so we are not a valuable commodity to the networks. The conference as a whole is valued correctly, the average schools get more revenue than they earn and CU/FSU get far less than their market value.
We recently saw the Pac 10 go through the exercise of finding a better deal. Like you, they overestimated their market value, and it blew up their conference.

If the ACC could get more money by renegotiation we wouldn't be where we are now and ESPN would already be coming to the table to keep the conference in tact. Reality is, ESPN has a sweet heart deal and they don't want to give it up. If that contract runs out ESPN won't be offering the ACC more money.

How is it a sweetheart deal for ESPN? For me, a sweetheart deal implies ESPN is paying below market value for the ACC which I don't believe is the case.

ESPN is paying well below market value for the ACC. The ACC has 2 of the top 15 schools in TV viewership while having a 3rd school of those 15 under contract for 5 games a year (ND). Now throw in the ratings that Miami and UNC bring to the table. Now throw in Duke, UVA, UNC, Cuse, Notre Dame, Louisville basketball. ESPN's deal with the ACC under the current market is a blowout bargain.

If that were true, the ACC would be trying to get out of the ESPN contract so they could sign with a different network for more money. CU/FSU is being underpaid, UNC/Miami is being fairly paid and Cuse/BC are being overpaid but in total the contract with ESPN is fairly valued or a little over market based on the teams in the conference.

"If that were true, the ACC would be trying to get out of the ESPN contract "
This is not true
The ACC knows if their GOR is broken the ACC power brokers (Clemson, FSU, UNC, Miami) will bolt. In no way shape or form does the ACC want to chance any shift of the status quo until 2036 and they and ESPN want this deal to run until 2036 because they (ESPN) have a bargain right now and the ACC is locked in to more way more money than they would garner if they didn't have those big 4 above. ESPN is making big profits on the ACC. The estimated net cost to ESPN to broadcast the media rights of ACC sports is 15 mil per school and they're making way more than that in revenue.

The only reason FSU and CU want to leave is because of payout. IF the ACC could get more money from a different media company, it would solve the problem. The ACC is 3rd behind the big two and we saw what happened to the Pac so there is no evidence or reason to believe there is a company who would pay the ACC in its current configuration more than what they earn from ESPN.

Burke Magnus...ESPN President for Content:
"We made a calculated decision to go all in with the SEC, (which) I believe is the best college football conference by far. At a time (when) premium rights have escalated to the point where you can’t possibly own everything, we’re all in with the SEC from a regular-season perspective, and we feel really good about that."

The ACC is grossly underpaid under the current contract with ESPN. Which is not hard to fathom considering it is already over a decade old.
To recap, after losing its two bellcows (Texas and Oklahoma) and adding UCF, Cincinnati, Houston, BYU, the B12 negotiated a contract that pays each member roughly the same amount as they were making WITH Texas and Oklahoma in tbe conference.
A strong case can be made that EVERY ACC member (sans SMU) is receiving less than their brand is worth.
But the ink is dry and the power is all in ESPN's hands so the only path fwd is through the courtroom.

Did I miss the big bombshell that was supposed to drop this week proving that Phillips/the ACC unilaterally extended the GOR agreement without sign off from the schools, or is that just more realignment fake news?

I think the letter where the contract was unilaterally extended is on pages 245 and 246. Of course the meet is redacted.

It has been reported that the contract technically ends in a few years but ESPN

has a unilateral right to extend it to 2036 if they choose. This in and of itself illustrates how stupid the ACC leadership was to agree to this contract. I don’t have time to read all 67 pages, but maybe that’s what your seeing with the 2027 contract date.

There's not a whole lot I would even be interested in the ESPN contract other than dates.
What I want to see or hear confirmation about is this supposedly top secret double naught spy letter extending the GOR signed by Phillips without ACC school approval.
