This Shipley kid is something else. Can't recall a college RB in my lifetime who has the poise, commitment, and leadership skills that he possesses as a true freshman.
Fired me up seeing him lay into Parks after the personal foul. He may not finish with the stats of Travis, but I feel he will have a bigger impact on the team as a whole.

committed. What on earth could he have been thinking? I mean, it wasn't even CLOSE to the play not being over. AND right in front of the officials. I would have made him walk back to Clemson.

Travis may never be beaten.
But if you watch Shipley's postgame interviews, I have never before seen a true freshman conduct themselves so professionally. Kid has a bright future.

He was terrible catching the ball his first year and mediocre his second. He became a true weapon in the passing game his junior and senior year

He also improved his pass protection to an NFL level, which I expect the whole RB room will continue to improve at.

Actually, his catching prowess developed later. It shined his Junior year, and he exploded his Senior year (out of necessity due to poor run blocking).

There aren’t many RB’s that will finish with Etienne’s stats
Dec 30, 2021, 3:04 PM

It would need to be a RB on a team that plays 15 games a year for 4 years and also doesn’t forego his senior season. That doesn’t happen a lot. Too bad ETN didn’t have a great Oline his last year.

Don’t forget he only played 2-3 quarters most of those games, so probably just closer to 10 games a year with a “full” work load.

The best running back in the history of the ACC. I like Ship too but let’s give him a chance to finish an academic year in college before you put him up against the best to have ever done it.

He just needs to catch it out of the backfield consistently. Great heart and player but that needs to improve if he wants to be elite. Saying that I would take 3-4 others like him on the offensive side of the ball.

ETN had a better freshman year in almost every category than Shipley.
Ship is really really good, but he hasn’t come close to flashing like ETN did his freshman year. Not a knock on Ship because very few do.

But leadership ability.
I loved Travis, but he was not a "leader" on the team.
The fact that Ship broke CJ Spiller's freshman TD record and is literally THE leader of our offense as a true freshman is simply remarkable.

ETN’s freshman year we had guys named Wilkins, Renfrow, and Amari who were pretty good leaders. Also, say what you want about Bryant, but he has a big personality and was looked up to by the team. I think Shipley rose to the occasion out of necessity; there was a leadership void on the team that he sought to fill.

Spiller didn’t hold the record. He was second. The record for most freshman TDs belongs to Etienne.

Travis ETN had a QB like TL16 that was a huge threat every time the ball touched his hands to throw a TD, or run for a TD, that opened up a lot of things for ETN. When a team has a QB like TL16, and RB like ETN, expect huge numbers for them both. I would love to see the numbers that Shipley and a QB like TL16 could mount up together on a team. I think it could be just as many as it was with TL16 and ETN had, or it would be so close that it would be talked about in the very same sentence!!!

Is definately a special talent. I think we will see him used in a variety of ways next year. Especially if we can improve at the QB position. He even had a TD pass this year. Remember that?

Still think about that pass he dropped against Pitt. That could have been a big momentum swing in that game. He was a freshmen he will get better. Stats may have been a little lower than ETN but Shipley was 1 of 4 RB’s game 1. I love Pace and Mafah as well.

Shipley plays with an attitude. I watched him on several occasions get mad and pound the ground when he was tripped up or stumbled. That shows me he is a competitor and expects more of himself on each play.
Once he betters and enhances his skill set he will be an absolute beast.

But Shipley has to improve his pass receiving game and running after the catch! If he does, then, and only then, can he be compared in any way to Etienne!

I think Shipley is a identical mold of Travis. We have to remember Travis was working behind a far better and competant oline and was in a offense that wasn't lost half the time. We also have to remember Travis couldn't catch the cold his freshman year either. Ship will grow just as Travis did. But Shipley does bring an insanely huge leadership skill that Travis didn't have at times.

a comparison to Travis (yet). He has a long way to go to deserve mention in the same sentence.
They are two very different personalities and players. ETN did things Shipley simply is not capable of. Shipley has leadership traits ETN did not have.
Will be good to see Shipley play with a decent QB next year.

Etienne & Shipley

Etienne was a track guy with purple speed who developed into a total back over four seasons. Shipley was thrusted in to a leadership position although talented, he still has to develop other skills. Of course, Etienne is my favorite right after Spiller.
Looking forward to seeing our three backs developing over the next few years.

I have seen a lot of great running backs at Clemson through the years but Shipley as a true freshman isn’t afraid of contact while carrying the football. If he cannot run aromatic you, he will knock your socks off going through you. GO SHIP AND CLEMSON!!!!!!

And I forgot this; When Ship arrived on campus during Spring Camp, several coaches told me that the DB’s were going to show Ship what it is like in College Football. They soon found out that he had an attitude and wasn’t afraid of them. Soon they found out that he didn’t mind going up against them and he was going to hit them as hard as any back they had ever been up Against.
Ship is a work in progress but he isn’t afraid to put in the work. By the time he leaves Clemson it is in my opinion that he will be viewed as on of the GREATEST.
GO TIGERS!!!!!!
