Why would great players want to play for them? They are soft and Mac is old. I don’t get it. This is not a good team at all.

Maybe but I’d still want to be on a good team if I were a 4 or 5 star guy.

Me either, it’s a basketball school and they aren’t even that good anymore. Your literally going to a school to be forgotten nobody cares about UNC football

They have good facilities, they played for an ACC title not long ago,

their football history is pretty good, and they have a well known coach who is a good recruiter.
Plus, UNC is a very well-known brand thanks to Michael Jordan. UNC has been a very popular school among minorities for decades. That matters in recruiting.

Tack on… -Elite academic university -Gorgeous campus and top 25 facilities -Mild weather -Large and generally well-off alumni base = influence -Wide recruiting area into the deep south and up the east coast due to location and athletic brand.
I prefer when UNC football sucks, but they have a lot of things working in favor of their success. Personally, I’d put their program over Miami and #3 in ACC.

I see. But, Clemson has all of that plus, has been more than just relevant in football. FSU has nice facilities and I don't think they are bad academically. BTW, it's crazy to see that academics makes it to an argument for UNC when multiple players have come out and informed the NCAA how it's done there. But, I get what you are saying about the schools reputation.
I guess! But, that seems like it would get old. Great we have facilities and the Jordan brand - we get 30K at our games though! We are .500 to slightly above or below it annually over the last 15 years. Yes, they reached the title game a few years ago. But, geesh! That's all they have to show for it is all I am saying and what I think the OP was getting at as well!

I'm a Clemson grad, but it's silly to call it an "Elite" academic university. No one thinks that in the real world. It's a good school, and it's the best in the state of South Carolina. Definitely not elite though, especially since we keep falling in the rankings every year (at one time, UGA and FSU were peer schools, but we keep letting in too many people). UNC has a better argument and it's way ahead of Clemson in academic prestige, but I don't think it gets the title of elite either. Duke and Davidson do, as I'd say Elite refers to the very best schools in the country, so maybe top 25 national universities and top 10-15 liberal arts schools. But I really don't think academics mean much of anything to 90%+ of 5 Stars. There are actual elite schools in college football that struggle recruiting and some of the worst public universities like LSU and Alabama do very, very well.
UNC is a better academic school with a wealthier alumni base than Clemson. That's all I see though. Chapel Hill is a horrible city and the school is repulsive. Duke is the most beautiful campus in the ACC, but UNC is pretty low on that list. Clemson's far more beautiful. Clemson is probably a top 3 in facilities, and I'm not so sure UNC is top 25. The weather is a wash. I think Clemson is probably a better brand than UNC in football now due to recent success too. I highly doubt many recruits care that Michael Jordan went to UNC and their recruiting footprint outside of North Carolina is a function of Mack, one of the top recruiters in CFB, rather than UNC's own brand.

Zeus White Tori Gurley Just a few of the latest examples of good players to choose to leave NC to play! Go somewhere where "football is important" young dudes!
Football at U of non-compliance will always be 2nd. Or maybe even 3rd or 4th behind their soccer team and baseball team.
The state has lots of talent and honestly the school in NC that cares the most about football may very well be App St.
Yet, U of Non-Compliance and sometimes nancy st will keep good players in state. As you said OP - hard to see why. Playing for your state school, meh! Clemson isn't so far away they couldn't get here on game days. Must be the money is all I can figure.

A ton of players simply don’t care about playing on a championship team. Of coarse they wouldn’t mind it, but the lure of playing time and personal accolades/ recognition outweighs being part of a great team.

I should probably hire Mack to sell them. He'd probably get someone to pay a new car price.
