All this talk of firing our 2× National Championship

Coach make some of you look silly.

Let me ask you something. Is failure not sometimes the catalyst to great achievements? Does it not create drive and hunger? Dabo has been successful many times. In fact how many programs even sniff the National Championship, capture numerous conference titles, or beat great programs playing at a high level like Alabama, Ohio State, and Oklahoma?

I'd give this man, who has poured his energy and life into Clemson football time to work out in his own mind how things supremely failed this season and then start the road back to the National Championship. Besides, who you going to get? Can they sustain success at a high level? Very, very, very few coaches have had multiple years of success. Dabo deserves the right to right the ship. This is first losing season in a long, long time.

Go Tigers!!! Ever Loyal!

You’re missing the point, AT. No one’s arguing that Dabo hasn’t earned respect for what he’s built. We all lived through the climb. But respect for past success doesn’t mean immunity from accountability.

Complacency and loyalty to underperforming staff are the very reasons elite programs fall off. Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, they evolve, reload, and adapt. Clemson’s been recycling slogans while others adjust their schemes.

Failure can absolutely spark greatness, but only when there’s self-awareness and change that follows. What we’ve seen the last few years isn’t hunger, it’s stubbornness. Dabo’s earned time, sure, but he’s also burning it fast if he doesn’t modernize. History doesn’t win future championships. Adaptation does!

Go Tigers!

Bama, Georgia and Ohio St. have all gone thru their struggles as well. Georgia, before Kirby, was mediocre at best. Alabama was average in the late 90's and early 2000's before Saban. LSU went 5-5 and 6-7 after winning the national championship. Clemson isn't entitled to be better than any other school. Every team wants and tries to win. No player or coach takes the field not wanting to win.

What evidence is there of complacency? Who says he's not being held accountable? He's accepted responsibility for each and every loss. Everyone was elated when he hired Riley. Now people want him gone. Everyone was elated when he hired Allen. Now everyone wants him gone. You can't just go out and get any coach that you want.

I agree this year has sucked. But the guy has averaged 10 wins per season. Most everyone would have been elated to have that kind of success throughout the 90's and early 2000's. College football has created a system where the regular season no longer matters. Bowls no longer matter. It's playoffs or bust in most peoples minds. I think Dabo has earned a little grace. At least he has from me. He's not going to rest on past success. If you don't think he wants to win more than us fans then you haven't been paying attention for the past 17 years.

Just my two cents. And I know that's about twice what it's worth.

Oh and you have all this self awareness and introspection and Dabo Doesn’t?
I’m supposed to take your word for it because you post on a message board and you watched Dabo build the program and now you know more than He does?
I have always appreciated Dabo’s honesty.
His loyalty not only to Clemson and His players but mostly to Jesus!
I am amazed at his attention to detail in every aspect of his life and the teams entire year with every day and hour being planned.
He proves over and over again when people belittle Him and say He only won because of his assistant coaches that He actually is a football Genius and a motivational genius.
So He now has one bad year and yes that’s all it is is one bad year.. 10 wins and bowl games and conference championships are major successes not bad years.
So we should just fire that guy and listen to you and Tnet? Right.

I don't get it. I'm on here a lot. I have seen very very few posts that say Dabo should be fired. I've seen thousands like yours referenced to that subject.

Making a post on, or asking an opinion concerning what should Dabo do to fix xyz? How is that being twisted into wanting him fired? I'm missing something because I'm just not seeing it.

Winning post right here. I'm still behind Dabo and at the same time critical of things he has done. As usual the truth of the story is somewhere in between the two extreme sides. Although I would say the "fire Dabo" side is like two or three people with 60% pulses.

All of the major sports media in Clemson has also laughed at the notion that many want Dabo fired. That is so far from the truth but such is the way the mob goes.

What has he been stubborn about? pOrTaL? NIL?

We have one of the better NIL programs in the country. We use the portal, however, we have had the best retention in the entire country. We haven’t had to replace transfer starters with transfers. Every single team in America has lost more players than us. They use the portal more because they have to.

We've been good about retaining players we should have shown the door. Those last 10 or so scholarships, when our limit was 85, and now even more at 105, were nothing more than "Rudy's" on the sideline holding clipboards and play signs. Every good business recognizes their bottom 10% and rolls them every year.

We should have been doing the same and stocking the roster with experienced players who were going to actually help us. We thought that would be bad for our culture. We were wrong...

I still believe a lot of new people who are on Tigernet for free, most of the ones criticizing Dabo and the program are Trolls intended on hurting our program anyway they can.

I am and will always be loyal and support Clemson and our current coaches and the teams in all sports.

Em'd AD G Neff and told him we do not want Dabo fired. He set the expectations standard and he will fix it. We need more like him.

Over the years? The past? We went to the National Championship just LAST YEAR where Klubnick threw over 300 yds. Has Klubnick thrown for 300 yds this season more than once? Are Parker and Woods playing up to NFL caliber like last year? No.

It’s clear that millions in NIL money has messed with some heads and you blame Dabo? Those are full grown men who walk to the line of scrimmage instead of hustle, lose the game and go home in there Porches.

Dabo is one of only 2 active coaches that have won National Championships…who you gonna replace him with, Tom Allen?

Dabo takes full responsibility and will right the ship. Give me a break.

Agree, in a long and successful coaching career there will be transition periods. Dabo has chosen not to follow the herd in the current wild west of college football. He is trying to maintain a culture that has served him well while navigating the massive changes in college football and has maintained Clemson's positive culture.
My biggest concern is the mental lapses which have cost them significantly this season. The coaching staff is accountable for those.
Dabo is the reason we can bring in talented players without having to sell the farm to buy them. I don't believe Clemson can win bidding wars with the likes of Ohio State, Texas, and LSU.
I know that I will be blasted by the win at all costs, buy a better team crowd but as you said who are you going to get...

That is based on three key facts:

1. We have proven that we can be an elite program.
2. Dabo has proven that he can make us an elite program.
3. Dabo is paid at a level consistent with that of an elite coach.

You and some others here seem to suggest that it’s unfair to expect him to have us consistently in the upper echelon of college football teams. Why?!?

We have not been elite since 2020 at best. Don’t you find it concerning that we’ve paid him so much the last 5 years without having the results to show for it?

Or are you more devoted to Dabo than you are our football program? That’s the only rationale I can come up with as to how someone could defend what we’ve seen the last five years.

2020-2024 would be the second best 5 year run in Clemson football history outside of Dabo’s tenure. We finished ranked all 5 of those years (your favorite coach has only finished ranked 3 times in 15 years). A feat Danny Ford, nor any previous Clemson coach, had ever achieved at Clemson. Dabo just made it seem easy. That stretch includes 3 conference championships. In 15 tries Brownell can’t even get into a ACC Final. That is absolutely elite. You have to define it otherwise to try and encourage Clemson and its fans into shooting itself in the face by firing Dabo. You’re a pathetic person.

I know, you can’t help yourself in getting off-topic, but please try. It doesn’t help your stance.

As for your argument, 2020-2024 being better than most other years in Clemson football history means little when you consider several factors:

-Our poor record against the better teams on our schedule during that span
-The relative weakness of our schedule.
-The many advantages Dabo has had relative to previous Clemson coaches as well as coaches he has faced.

Finally, your personal attacks are not necessary.

I explained in great detail why your assertions are fallacies. I do so again.

Poor record against better teams: we 14th in ranked wins since 2020
Relative weakness of schedule: our SOS averages 15th in the country 2020-2024
Advantages: your assertions is a logical fallacy. Dabo’s “advantages” compared to previous football coaches is irrelevant. It only matters what advantages he holds against the competition now matters. We have the 17th largest budget with the gap with SEC and BIG10 schools growing annually.

The personal attacks are very much warranted.

What indication do we have that Dabo will be able to right the ship? How many offensive coordinators have we cycled through since the Elliott / Scott combo when we were at our peak? None of them have had great sustained success. Now we are on our 2nd defensive coordinator since BV and the defense is the worst it's ever been. I don't know why people want to continually give Dabo a leash to replace coordinators when we've done this in the past without getting anywhere. At some point, the BUCK HAS TO STOP WITH DABO.

Ever Loyal!

Failure can be a catalyst to great success. That being said, with as much failure as we've seen this season, we had better see a 25 year Playoff Run from Clemson. That's for sure! I will agree that Dabo has earned the opportunity to make necessary adjustments to ensure success moving forward. The verdict is still out on whether or not he will make any meaningful staff changes. Nobody at this juncture can tell me that Clemson doesn't have a loaded player roster bursting at the seams with talent. I don't buy that for one bit. However, that talent has not been coached nor developed very well. A complete staffing overhaul may be just what the doctor ordered.

Wouldn't that be amazing! A 25 year run being in the playoffs. It's a fantastic dream, but most teams if not all have off seasons in a period as long as 25 years.

I think it is extremely illy this year, next year, or possibly even the following year, but the past success doesn't mean a lifetime job IMHO. He needs to step it up. I believe he will though.

Dabo has been rewarded nicely for that. He will never have to worry about paying a bill again. However there is expectation to keep winning that goes with that high salary and not start losing to every power 4 opponent you play at home.

Yes I agree 110%!

We have given our basketball coach 14 years to produce a championship, yet our football coach must produce a championship each year or be fired!?!

When was our last ACC Championship by sport?

Dabo doesnt need to produce a championship every year

but he should have us in the top group of football programs every year. After all, our program has accomplished that multiple times prior to Dabo, as well as with Dabo, and we fund and support the program accordingly.

This isn’t complicated.

Please stop asking the rhetorical question "who would we get?" It displays a certain naivete about the state of college football today. This is a new age of hired guns, and you're implication that there is NO ONE who would take $11million for this utter mediocrity is ridiculous. I'm sure there are a lot of respectable coaches willing to step into that salary with the amount of talent, facilities and resources at Clemson. It's nuts to just keep things as they are...the definition of insanity. Time to stop whistling past the graveyard with these inane posts of blind allegiance.

Like I said: Who would you get? Coaches are a dime a dozen but consistent winners are very, very, very difficult to find. I can only name one or two coaching right now that might fit the expectations Clemson fans. And I don't see them going anywhere. Until others emerge on the national stage it would be a very risky hire.

Dabo isn’t Clemson. I will never care more about the coach than I do the Clemson football program.
Yet, Dabo is acting as if he is Clemson.

I’m not calling for his termination, I’m not someone who has yet.
But It also appears that he is not giving in to doing things any different. And if he can’t find success in the way he’s choosing to run things, then you and everybody else will want him fired. Give it one more losing season, and y’all will be right on the edge calling for Dabo to be gone.

The truth is there are many, many books written on success cycles. Whether business, sports, economy, or personal success-cycles will always exist. And btw, there’s not a plethora of PROVEN coaches available. Whether you like or dislike Dabo, it seems wise to stand with a PROVEN commodity to navigate the new (and still evolving) world of college football.

I don’t think you’re wrong, but a preface to your argument, is that one must realize and admit a failure before it can be used as a catalyst for greatness.

I believe the problem for the majority of fans, is the fact that until this very point, Dabo didn’t see the failure, when it was glaringly obvious that a slide had begun in 2019.
