Let us recap the brilliant TigerNet talking points from the
Jan 4, 2014, 11:50 AM
|
|
middle of the game last night and throughout the month of December:
- We always choke and give up when we lose momentum
- Dabo can't win big games, "snatches defeat from the jaws of victory" (that gem was a trophy post)
- Tajh chokes in big games and isn't elite (378 yards, 5 TDs, 127 yards rushing, 1 TD BTW)
- Morris's gimmicky offense disappears in big games
- Winning 10+ games three years in a row isn't a big deal because we play 12 games now and the ACC is weak
- We didn't beat any good teams this year
- Our defense is soft (ask Braxton Miller who's soft)
- "You don't do [insert player mistake here] with good coaching"; "That's on the coaches"; beat a guy who was 4-0 in BCS bowls, 24-1 at OSU, and widely considered one of the three best in CFB
- I liked this one: "The second half will be ugly. Meyer will make adjustments and our Coaches will scratch their heads."
-And my personal favorite: Stanton Seckinger shouldn't be playing division 1 football (2 game winning TDs in our biggest wins this year)
All you idiots who walk up to the ledge of a tall building any time Clemson is losing and at half time and start posting moronic drivel need to come eat some crow or go pull for someone else.
Great win!! GO TIGERS!!!

and will own it.
our kids are 2-3 TDs better than OSU.
I maintain that we win in spite of our HC, not due to him.
Our staff made that game closer than it should have been.
INT with 1:30 left? You serious? Why even throw?

I can answer your last question
Jan 4, 2014, 12:05 PM
|

Had we run on what was 3rd and 8 or 9, you would be on here skewering the coaches for "playing not to lose".
I happen to be in the group that would've run and punted every time, but I'm not gonna complain that we tried to finish the game right then and there.
OF COURSE you think we win in spite of Dabo. You have an ax to grind against him and he will, in your mind, only ever get the blame for losses and never the credit for wins.

not total truth but close. I have praised him in the past. And I do acknowledge the talent that has been brought in under his watch; both player and coach.
My ax is this:
If Morris (or anyone) was the CEO type coach and Dabo was our OC, how many games would we have won this year? I guess I put too much emphasis on the ability to actually coach..... I just get upset when I realize that on gameday the other team has 3 minds working to our 2 on the sideline.

That's a stupid ax - Dabo is the head coach, not the offensive coordinator and he is increasingly proving he is a great head coach. How many games does Alabama lose if Saban stops focusing on defense and starts calling all the offense? A head coach is judged by the total body of work and Dabo's is pretty impressive at this point. Any assertions otherwise are blinded by personal politics, being a coot, or other things that have nothing to do with an honest evaluation of a coach.

we will see when his 2 crutches are gone (morris/venables).

Football teams are all about "crutches". It's made of parts. Dabo hired those guys, to be a part of the working pieces. Can they not be replaced?
Do you have any idea how many great coaches that Danny Ford surrounded himself with? Are any decent coach that's practicing the craft today?
This ain't no one man show.

The problem, really, is that you assume to know things

[ in reply to Re: I can answer your last question ] |

That you have no reason to believe you know.
You aren't on the sideline, or in the film room all week, or there with them gameplanning. You have NO idea how that is carried out.
That said, what I find hilarious in your view is that the Anti-Dabo folks like to argue that he is nothing but a figurehead and has no say in how we run plays and yet constantly accuse him of meddling in things when the play calling has issues.
Is a self fulfilling viewpoint. If you think him unworthy of credit you will find reasons to deprive him of that credit.

but you need to be careful assuming too.
because I have been before. and i do have a little insight into this situation. personal insight. not 2nd hand. i don't just blindly dislike the guy. trust me, he is CLEMSON's coach - I give all of those guys the benefit of the doubt. I have very good reasons.
The masses simply don't understand. And that is ok. They shouldn't.

I don't understand people with this viewpoint. Probably the same group on here that blasted Dabo for hiring a "High School Coach" in the first place.

You can clearly see Dabo say to Tajh "I TOLD YOU NOT TO THROW", the play call at the end was Tajh's decision.

You blast Dabo, but Dabo blatantly told our QB to NOT THROW THE BALL. Our QB chose to throw the ball.
So what is your solution so Dabo can be a good coach? Should Cole Stoudt have been playing?

Boyd did exactly what our SYSTEM dictated he do. He has been programmed and conditioned for 4 years to make that read and call. You want him to change in the heat of battle? And for the record, the QB do NOT listen to Dabo on game day. They have been specifically instructed to ONLY listen to Morris. So, if Morris didn't tell him "to not throw the ball" then he didn't hear it.
that is a matter of public record and has been reported before. QB's listen to Morris only. It is documented.

i can't remember which game it was, but Morris said after a game that the QB's were to communicate with him only on game day and ate off limits to anyone else. He doesn't want their minds clouded. I will try to find the article. It was on TigerIllustrated post game offense recap.

Your "whole life" - are you a time traveling ghost? No wonder you know so much more than the rest of us. Or are you star quarterback Tom Brady taking time during the bye week to help us poor ignorant Clemson fans know a little more about football?

confidence is common to so many.
I was worried we had blown our chance to win until that muffed punt, Ohio St had all the momentum.
But athletically we were way better, and that in and of itself is impressive. Ohio St is no slouch.

Dabo has in is brief career won a conference title, a division title, a BCS game &posted consecutive 11 win seasons while graduating players and running a clean program. And some chat room geniuses with "trust me I know stuff you don't" credentials say Clemson wins in spite of it's Head Coach. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!

i wasn't demeaning his accomplishments. Simply provided the requested info on why I dislike him. Didn't say everyone else shouldn't like him either. I don't hate on people who cheer for him. He has been (mostly) good for CU. Liek I said earlier, my love for CU supersedes any personal feelings I have for a particular coach. I still live and die with every TD, penalty, turnover, win and loss.

To be fair

We were down 29-20 late in the 3Q and punting the football away. That's 2 scores as it is and if they drive as they were doing all 3Q it might have been more. That was the low point of the game, probably when most of those posts came. Then we got a break with a muffed punt reception on their part. Just like we gave 2 to the coots which had a drastic impact on that game. Considering before that muffed punt we should have been up about 28-7 or so, at that point, it definitely felt we were gift wrapping this thing for them and I can't imagine any tiger fan not really frustrated with all the missed opportunities, Beasley penalty, Tajh grounding in end zone, crazy Tajh pass/pick when we were at their 2 yd line, etc, etc. We were the better team, and that botched punt break just gave us the spark. So...I can understand much of the complaining at that point in the game.

So the CEO will have track record and history of finding/hiring the right personnel. Are you saying Chad M and Brent V came to Dabo and hired themselves?
