I guess I did a good deed yesterday evening...

I was outside grilling hamburgers about 6:45 last night when I heard something like a muffled boom. It wasn't a sound you hear everyday, and it sounded like it came from a house behind and to the right of us. About a minute or 2 later I heard what sounded like a smoke detector. Then 2 dogs started barking. I went inside and got one of our guests to come see what he thinks. We both climbed up on our swingset and could see flames in the house. About that time our neighbor directly behind us came out on her deck, and I hollered at her to call 911, because they're next door neighbors house was on fire. I grabbed our 2 fire extinguishers and took off for their house, but by the time we got there the cops showed up and said to stay away. The fire trucks came about a minute later. The whole thing took about 5-6 minutes, and luckily they saved the house. The people were not home. I guess I did my good deed for the day, even though I'm sure there was damage in the house.

Tip of the hat to you, Sir. We live in an age where a lot of folks would react by reaching for their phone to record the carnage.

Grabbing your phone & calling 911 is always a good response in an emergency

If not the first thing to do, almost always in the top 2 to 3.

Yes you did. Glad no one was hurt and they were able to save the house.***

Pig...still doing it the corporate way. Hiring a consultant for a second opinion, then delgating action to call 9-1-1.
Mitigating damages.
You rock, Pig!

Learned this morning that he had left a stove burner on high by mistake. He then left to see a baseball game.

That's my biggest fear. Almost 77 and now alone, have to double check to ensure nothing which could cause a fire is functioning like the gas stove when leaving the house.

Good job. In today's world, we have a lot of observers rather people willing to help.
