The case for DJ Heisman
Oct 6, 2022, 1:52 PM
|
|
All you have to do is look at Kenny Pickett. His Junior season wasn’t as bad as DJ’s sophomore season but it wasn’t great either.
Junior season 203 332 61.1 2408 13 TD 9 INT Pitt went 6-5 Senior season 334 497 67.2 4319 42 TD 7 INT Pitt went 11-3
My point is that his bad season doesn’t have to hurt DJ, it can actually help him. Who doesn’t love a redemption story? The fact that Clemson can be undefeated when Heisman votes are due in this year won’t hurt either.
Who would’ve thought Pickett could be a Heisman finalist? Certainly not Clemson fans. “In Pickett's first game against Clemson in 2018, the ACC Championship Game, the Tigers' defense held him to just eight passing yards on 4-of-16 passing. In his second game against Clemson in 2020, he threw four interceptions in a 35-point loss. But in Pickett's third and final game against Clemson, he led Pitt to a 10-point win, completing 25 of 39 passes for 302 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.”
If Kenny Pickett can finish 3rd in the Heisman voting last year then DJ can come out of nowhere and win it all this year! He just needs more passing TD’s

I expect the votes to be in before...

DJ has time to redeem himself in the eyes of the voters. This is all a popularity contest which ends early because the judges are in a hurry to voice their opinions.

If DJ and the Tigers maintain their current trajectory,

he will definitely be in the discussion.
I would think he would need a couple of purely dominating performances down the stretch though to crack into the finalist mix. Lots, LOTS, of opportunity left for him and us.
Hope BC is one of those. Ain't no bigger one than the next one.
Go Tigers! Go DJ!

let's just let this work itself out... crap takes on a life of its own... after the DW4 snub it further degraded the award ...
All anyone needs to worry about is BC...

got robbed. His best case was actually 2015 and that's not the one everyone gets upset about. Lamar was absolutely deserving of the Heisman in 2016 and, quite frankly, might be the better NFL QB too which is never something I thought I would say. He's a one man offense in Baltimore.

What a complete load !!!!

Lamarville played like crap down the stretch and cost his team at least two if not three wins. Furthermore, DW beat him in the head-to head match-up and then went-on to win a national championship.
The voters made-up their minds to vote for Lamarville after Louisville pounded an over-rated FSU team. If the vote had been taken later in the season, DW wins in a landslide as he should have.

FSU yes, but also that 7 TD Game against that powerhouse...Charlotte. Yeah, so while DW4 and Trevor were out end of the half or first drive of 2nd, these dudes were getting 4 quartets to pad stats.

Lmfao, Deshaun led the NFL in passing the last year he played, would’ve beaten the Chiefs in the playoffs that year if he had half a defense. And Lamar didn’t win jack diddly in 2016 lost the most important game but you know who won when he needed to DW4 continue on though ?♂️?♂️

He's in the hunt. He's way down the list but he's on it. Nobody would've given you a plug nickel for his chances before the season started. That's all you can ask for right now. He'll move up with each game if he maintains his current trajectory. Every contender has to have their " Heisman moment " to really catapult into a finalist. Would love to see him just blow the doors off whomever we play in the ACCCG. That could seal it.

There is no bigger DJ supporter than me but he does not have Heisman numbers. As I said probably yesterday, we know from Deshaun and Trevor that winning 13-15 games is not enough.
