Apparently prior to the attack the victim posted some stuff on social media about hating an entire race of people and referred to them as the N word. No that does not justify the violent act of the 4 assailants. They should all be kicked off of the team and the 4 attackers will be prosecuted for assault. In fact SC used to have a lynching charge still on the books as recently as a few years ago. If multiple people attack one individual it can be levied; and it carries significantly higher penalties.
PS in no universe is calling someone a cracker comparable to calling them the N word.

1) The idiot white kid said something stupid, got punched in the face for it, and hopefully learned a valuable lesson about the consequences of his actions.
2) The guys who jumped him took it way too far and instead of seeking a better way to address the issue, went vigilante on him to the point of assault and battery.
Both sides can be wrong. Doesn't have to be an either/or situation.

There is absolutely no evidence that he called them that word.
That is no reason to jump a kid. Lynching is a felony and can get you plenty of time in prison. Get it straight, they did jump him. Multiple people hit him. Being called a name doesn’t give you the right to assault someone.

Some of what I read on here is ridiculously asinine. I would like to think most on here are adults but it sure seems that there is a few who are either children in an adults body or they are just idiots who think violence solves everything. No matter what someone says it doesn't give them carte blanche to attack some one physically. Those that did have put themselves in an untenable position of having to pay both financially and legally for their assault. The school district is gonna pay the most since they have the deepest pockets, but the attackers are going to pay also! I understand the thought that one would want to punch somebody in the mouth if they were insulted but you can't do that and get away with it, especially if it is recorded, you have no defense for that!

It's 100% assault. There was no bloody nose to the attacker. By law you don't have the legal right to punch someone, even if they said something that you find offensive.
That being said, nobody's produced any proof that he actually used a racial slur.

You dont live in reality. First of all, we are talking high school kids. Secondly, saying certain things can always lead to butt kicking, especially in high school. It has been that way since this country was founded as far as people fighting over words. That's why most fights happen. There are consequences for breaking the law though. There is no legal defense. That part is a given. That's a major reason why mature adults don't fight. This story is about high school and the realities of high school.

We will never know the full truth due to all involved being juveniles and records being sealed, etc.
Even IF he said what he was accused of saying there is absolutely zero justification for the 3-4 guys to do what they did and in the manner they did it. There were numerous other avenues they could have taken. But there’s more to this, probably, than we have heard on both sides. Family statements are he will never be able to do contact sports again. That may come out in court sometime but again unlikely due to there being juveniles involved. This whole thing is a dark cloud right now and not like to end well.

They should be dismissed from the team immediately and banned from participating in any HS sports in SC for at least 1 year, maybe permanently. I don't care what provoked the attack, but it is never justified to physically attack someone else unless you are protecting yourself from physical harm.
Now the boy was wrong for using the N word and should also be dismissed from the team. I would also consider strong discipline of the other players. This was obviously a planned attack the others on the team know about, because they were filming it waiting on it to happen. Then once it started, no one flinched or even tried to physically or verbally break it up.
If I were the coach, I would dismiss everyone in that room at the time of the attack.

In the 1960s, the US government decided that it would be beneficial to subsidize single motherhood. When something is subsidized, you're going to get more of it. Decades roll by & now many homes have no father. Daddies are usually the muscle/enforcer in the household. Remove that, & children run amok. This has led to the thug culture & it's glorification of violence, narcotics, promiscuity & misogyny. And the worst part is, among households that are not single parent, many of them allow their children to poison their minds with the very same thug culture thru TV, movies, & music because they want to be their childrens' buddies instead of their parent. 13 years of government school indoctrination will never erase the reality that we find ourselves in and the reality that many of us have been affected by.
