Top 5 RBs since 2000 at Clemson

If I could place one of our previous RBs from previous teams on this years team, this would be my list. Considering we should have a good OL, this woukd be my list in order.

1. ETN
2. Spiller
3. Ellington
4. Gallman
5. Davis

I loved Ship's passion but always got tackled easily with arm tackles. Mafah was a bruiser but just didn't have the take it to the house factor. Merriwether nor Coleman ever had 1000yd seasons. 5* Harper never developed, but had the catch in Auburn that was fantastic.

I was there. That Auburn game catch by Harper was absolutely amazing!!!
Auburn's DT's spear tackle to the lower back of our QB decided the game...no call!

He was a very good RB. Often underrated even by Clemson fans

Not underrated by Clemson fans, but beyond. Dude was a beast and carried a decent carrier in the pros.

I think he and Hot Rod were somewhat similar. Talk about leaning on an RB, Hot Rod did his work. Talk about under appreciated.....

Hot Rod wasn't the home run threat Ellington was though***

Hot Rod was good with passion unfortunately he was just small. He got crushed trying to block Ends and LBs. If he had another couple inches and 20lbs, he would have had a pro career.

He wasn't fast enough to play at the next level...He had excellent footwork

You are right, I forgot he only ran a 4.69 at Pro Day. He was only 5'8 so he had to bulk up to bump 200.

I wondered what he was doing and he has been coaching, currently at Marshall. Good for him! Always liked Hot Rod.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was proud of him for sticking it out and waiting his turn, wish him the best***

I think Ellington is definitely appreciated by Clemson fans, he was so fun to watch, but I know I personally sometimes will forget Ellington and just gloss right over him because he was in between Spiller and the start of the National Championship runs. He was phenomenal but sandwiched between Spiller and Etienne--the two best RBs in school history.

" Hot Rod " McDowell was a Heisman Trophy worthy RB considering dude had a club foot.

Yep. I wonder if Georgia , Alabama , Texas , OhioSt , Michigan etc,. would ever start a RB with a club foot ?

Terry Allen is a top 3 back
Kevin Mack is a top 5 back

Raymond Priester was tough as nails and was Clemson's all-time leading rusher for decades.

There are several others.

Lester Brown ( Rubber Duck )
Chuck McSwain
Travis Zachery ran hard
