I could be wrong, but I think our style of play affects recruiting

in a big way. I was in the car a couple of weeks ago for a 2 hour drive, and just happened to tune in to a nat'l sports show... I forget, maybe CBS Sports? Anyway, they were discussing March Madness and possible upsets and underdog teams to watch out for. The thing I remember most is the teams "that have scorers". Guys that can score. The comments were like "Well, they may be not be big inside, but they have (whoever) and (whoever) and either may go off for 25 or 30 points, you just never know. If they get hot, they can shoot anybody off the court".
Dangerous teams. Teams with "scorers". Guys that can shoot. Guys that can take over a game. And I thought to myself - when's the last time those kinda comments would be made about Clemson? When's the last time we had somebody that scared the #### out of the other team? No, we always seem to have a team full of role players, averaging 8-10 points/game.
So, back to the original point... I think our style of offense under Brownell discourages "playas" from coming here. Those kinda guys don't want to earn minutes by playing killer defense, they want to run the floor and fill up the basket. They want to score the damm ball.
Like in football. You're a badazz 5-star WR that runs a 4.4 forty and leaps like a gazelle. Do you want to go play for a team that runs a conservative offense, and you're mostly blocking for the running game? Or do you want to play for Clemson, who's gonna sling it all over the field and put up 50 points a game, giving you plenty of chances to make acrobatic catches and one-handed grabs?

Yup. You are right. Would a kid prefer the OP offense or the BB offense?

more "playmakers" and "scorers" than we can now. If I'm a hotshot guard out of DeMatha HS with a slew of good offers, I probably don't even give Clemson a glance...

A shorter version of your take; Brad can recruit "athletes". He just can't seem to find "basketball" players.

Yet guys flick to Cuse to play a zone D and UVA won a Natty by playing defense. Perhaps you should throw a few more theories against the wall to see if one will stick

It’s almost like there are two ends of the court and you have to have a strategy at both.

can score too. They avg 76 points/game. And in their 2 tourney wins, the Boeheim kid has gone off for 25 & 30 points. UVA did have that magical year in 2019, but that is sandwiched by embarrassing upsets and 1st round exits. They were the first #1 seed to lose to a #16 in history in 2018, and were just bounced out as a #4 seed by #13 Ohio. They scored 54 & 58 points in those 2 upsets.
They couldn't score.
edit: I just looked at Syracuse schedule... they went over 100 points twice this year.

If he would only pick up a chair like he's going to throw it, that would be 10 times more exciting than what he generates during a game.

....and that is ultimately who you are in any sport. Pep talks don't lure top talent, winning does.
There's no point and little to be gained by blaming straw-men for Clemson's basketball ineptitude. Winning cures all and nothing else matters. A coach can either consistently win, or he can't.

Exactly my point for the last six years , you are who your record says you are, Brownell has a losing record the ACC. No amount of excuse making or apologizing is going to change that

Good big in Eli Thomas. That was the best team I’ve seen in the past 20 years at Clemson, and the sweet 16 appearance confirms that.

I think just about about all players on a team need a few minutes in a game. Bust your butt for two or three minutes each half. Change it up because you can. Heck, Michael Jordan only averaged about 30 minutes a game in college and he was the best!

Sadly Brownell is too stubborn to make this work. At the beginning of the season we saw a different style of play than in years past. He played more players, and the guys played a free-flowing style of play. It was refreshing and fun to watch. By the end of the season he had reverted back to his old “first team to score 60 wins” strategy, and his 7-8 man rotation. That strategy is a team morale killer and has now cost him two players to the transfer portal. He can’t help himself. By year 11, sadly he is who he is.

I was thinking this same thing, I was quite excited about our team this year watching some of our early season games. We were playing a different kind of offense, more free flowing and very fast paced, offensive oriented. I recall Nick Honor being a big part of the first 2 months of the season as well.
Right around ACC play starting it all kind of changed, Honor played less, and we got more into the pass, pass, pass, pass, chuck a 3 offense of year's past. Very odd.
And that was a big reason we beat good tournament teams like Bama, Purdue, Maryland, and FSU. I feel like we coasted our way into the tournament on those wins...
