I keep reading about how Dabo is ruining our program and should be fired and held accountable. We are the equal to Ohio State and Alabama.
Yes, Dabo has made it so that we can regularly beat those programs but it feels like most of the people on here have no idea the size of the alumni base of both of those schools, long standing history of winning and conference support in terms of dollars.
We won 3-6 games a year from 1960-1978 (won 7 once). We won 6-7 games a year from 92-2010, won 9 4 or 5 times. In the 80’s, Danny Fords 4 best years are about equal to the last 4 years for Dabo (his worst outside of that 2nd season).
So over the last 50 years of Clemson football the last 4, Dabo’s worst, and equal to the best in program history need to result in him changing or being fired? Many on here are delusional and have no idea what Clemson is without Dabo. Call it a cult, or call it what it is and we appreciate winning, but saying Dabo is driving this program into the ground ain’t it.
We lost one game to a top ten team by one score, this isn’t the BCS or 4 team CFP, it’s a new world— the loss literally means nothing. Grow up and have some perspective, when Dabo chooses to leave — he will never be fired because people with a brain understand all the points I’ve made here, we will become Auburn or even worse Mississippi State. What we were before he got here for the previous 50 years outside a small blip in the 80’s. A school with good tradition with middling results.
Be patient, it’s a long season. Ohio state lost twice last year (once in a similar fashion that we lost to LSU to a terrible Michigan team to END the season). We have plenty of talent and time to bounce back in the 12 team playoff era. Enjoy the season and relax.
Go Tigers 🐅

Yeah he’s been underwhelming… I thought he was going to be the change and new voice we needed when he came in. I think the concepts are there but he needs to cut it loose bs top tier competition. The playbook looks significantly different vs bad teams and tougher competition. He needs to just trust our players and not worry about who we are playing IMO.

AW0 is a big factor. People are losing that. He is our best receiver at getting open and creating separation in short yardage situations. Late in the game we were like 0-5 on 3rd and fourth down from 5 yds or less. We missed liked 3 short slants. And the 2 roll out plays. You can’t convince me that if we had AW0 we wouldn’t have converted one of those. All we needed was one.

AW0 is leader of our receiving corps and Cade trusts him. When he went down Cade looked lost with the primary receiver and progression to alternate receivers. Thought Tristan Smith should have played more especially down near red zone. LSU used an end zone fade to tall receiver against Terrell for their last TD.

Riley needs to be gone after this season. Also, Cade is in his 4th year and looked like a freshman making his first start. Both teams last night were playing their first game of the season. Clemson’s offense had no identity at all.

Maybe wait until the end of the season to make this comment. I might agree with you if nothing changes. We are in a new era of football, the 12 team playoff changes everything, I know we wanted to win this but it doesn’t feel like we threw the kitchen sink at LSU like they did to us. Kelly had real pressure to win an opener, we seemed to treat it like the tom Brady Patriots the first 4 weeks of the season, preseason games to see where we are and what adjustments we need to make.

I’m in this camp. This was a good “preseason” game to build off of and learn from. I trust Dabo, Matt Luke and Tom Allen to make improvements. Like previously stated the jury is still out on Riley.

So what about the last 4 seasons then, after losing against LSU do we just disregard the pattern? If LSU truly wanted it more what does that say about us? That we gave in todays defeat on our home turf? If thats the case the root of the problem may be worse than I thought.

I appreciate your posts, and I get where you’re coming from. But honestly, waiting until the end of the season doesn’t erase the years-long trend. This isn’t just about LSU or one opener, it’s about not beating quality teams again and again, especially in the SEC.
Respect where it’s due, but at some point the pattern speaks louder than the patience.

Really good post.
I think some of the criticisms pointed towards Dabo are warranted but asking for his job is ridiculous.
Look at DeBoer at Bama. I know it’s a different situation, but the grass isn’t always greener just bc you got a guy in that’s doing what YOU think needs to be done to be successful.

Deboer is the perfect example of what will happen at Clemson when we move on from Dabo but at a much more accelerated pace. Dabo is our Saban, our Bear and look what happened to those programs when they left.

5 years of declining results isnt looking at things with a sense of realism? Im not ready to start from scratch but the whole Dabo worship thing doesn't make sense either. Yes, he lead us to 2 national titles. That was 7 years ago. The last 5 years we haven't been competitive against any of the elite programs we have faced. Those results speak to a program trending down. They make clowns like Finebaum sound like a genius.

Looks what happening to us now. 5 years of mediocrity and counting. Every legendary coaches reaches his peak and then begins to regress. Dabos stubbornness to adapt may very well point to this fact. However, its not to late. If the LSU was a singular event calling fans out wouod be appropriate. However, it was just another repeat just like last years opener and the season before. At some point of the most rose colored glasses of fans have to realize we aren't performing at an elite level. We have no recent data to back up that argument.

The pattern of losing big games, losing your opener and losing games to your rival the last 3 or 4 years is most alarming and becoming too much of a habit under Dabo. When is he going to fix it again like he did after TB? That's the 11 million dollar a year question.

Got ya, so next year if we lose to LSU it wont matter. As long as we win the weak ACC and get knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. Lets sprinkle another loss in their to South Carolina for good measure. I guess when you drop the goal of winning the opener it speaks volumes to the recent results on the field.

I see it for what it is. Lashing out at Dabo and Riley and everything that he has brought to Clemson is just stupid, emotional ignorance.
We aren't on an even playing field since NIL and the portal in comparison to programs with the money it takes today to be at the top level. I hate it, but it's not debatable.
Everyone wanting Riley's head for his game plan should be more concerned with our position coaches and what they can do to help their players maximize their talent to include catching catchable balls, blocking and winning the LOS.
There's plenty of valid critisicm for the coaching staff, mostly offense, but acting like we were going to beat that LSU team with our Joe's against their, clearly bigger, faster, stronger Jimmie's isn't too brilliant.

So, we should’ve expected that loss? Weren’t we supposed to have a top tier WR room, veteran OL, Adam Randall was all that, and Klubnik was an Heisman candidate?
Fans are called fans for a reason, some comments may be ridiculous but I’m pissed. And y’all claim “it is what it is” and “shut up and be happy that we had what we had for a while”. We’ve opened up the last several seasons with bad losses to Georgia, Duke, and now LSU, where we had a huge home field advantage. That game could’ve easily been won if coaches and players had been more prepared and competent. They build this team up so fans will get hyped and buy tickets.
Dabo tells us fans to show up and show out in our orange, spending hundreds of dollars on tickets. (Most Clemson fans, unlike our coaches, are not multi-millionaires) We do our part expecting the team to do their’s. And we get a crap sandwich for a game.
So what should we do concerning our position coaches? We can’t do anything as fans or even IPTAY members. You know why? Because Dabo hired them. And nobody forces Dabo to do anything. And here we are again in this cycle of fans getting mad but they can’t criticize or call out Dabo for his decisions. And Dabo saying “we’re only a few plays away” again, But you fans shut up and buy tickets and support this team and if we lose, we should’ve known better in this day and age of college football and stuff.

Nobody said you weren't entitled to your opinion. My opinion is you and that faction ready to burn it all down are entitled and emotionally challenged adult adolescents. In fact, how old are you? That will likely affirm the root cause.
So be pissed and butthurt because you feel entitled with no actual program perspective that matters.
I imagine you didn't even attend Clemson.

I personally didn’t think they out talented us at all. What I saw was on the plays we had, we didn’t execute. Our line was awful in protection. What I saw was freaking zero pressure release plays to alleviate the 7 man freaking rushes! The middle of the field was open for 3 freaking quarters and Riley never adjusted. I ain’t calling for anyone’s head, but to me, that should have been an in game adjustment as soon as we saw we couldn’t run it. LSU did it us! Ran the same play three times in a row!

If their players are truly that much faster and bigger than how does the original posters argument hold any truth? We can't be both elite on the same level as Ohio State while also fielding a team of lesser athletes. Would this statement not lend weight to the argument that Clemson has fell from the top rung of college football?

I was a Jr in 98, the West years. We went 3-8.
We beat Furman, Twerps and coots.
I remember the Twerps game because stadium felt empty, and I remember we shut them out!!
Im grateful for what Dabo did for Clemson and I hope he can adjust to the current environment to keep the success going!

I agree what you said but Coach Riley needs to vastly change his play calling. I remember when I was a student at Clemson in the mid 70’s the records were 4-7,3-8,5-6 (not good).

Bro I agree with the Dabo stuff. A lot of posters just agree with the world but this loss says a lot. We have seen over the last 5 years the same problems. Lack of physicality, look unprepared, poor QB play and we are losing consistently to SEC teams. This is not just a one off. Even if we blow through the ACC it still shows that the ACC is weak unless we win a few in the playoffs to prove everyone wrong.
I think we all may have to lower expectations unless we see drastic changes in recruiting.

We were an elite team. The past 5 years this has not been an elite team. Can’t win the big games against the elite teams. The game of football has evolved quite a bit during this period of time. We did not and now this is where we are. Left behind and can’t win the big games against the elite teams which compete for the national championship. It is what it is. Go Tigers!

But is this really a big game? It feels like we are treating these as preseason games now and prepping for the ACC. We are not showing all our cards so to speak like LSU did with Kelly having much more pressure on him.

I agree we still have all our main objectives ahead of us but I can’t believe we were pulling punches and not showing all our cards.
I’m old and retired and really have given up most critical thinking after 40 years of engineering and project managing. Seen a lot of Clemson games going back into the 70’s and was at all the National Championship games (including the 81 Orange Bowl).
You have a lot of good insight and sometimes it seems like you have some inside knowledge. I haven’t given up but we really need to show improvement in our offense before we play GT and FSU.

I agree with most of your original post, but I don’t see how you can shrug this off as not being a big game.
If we win yesterday and make it to the ACC championship game but lose, we need all of the help we can get. If LSU turns out to be the real deal this season, it could’ve been the game that puts us in over other non-conference champs.
With the disrespect that the ACC gets, we will be fortunate to get more than one team in. SMU barely got in last year with only 1 regular season loss.

Either you wanna win, or you wanna cheer for a coach. I am a Clemson first fan. Not Dabo first. I loved Clemson well before I knew a stubburn old mule like Dabo existed. And I’ll love Clemson just the same when he is a memory.
You fan how you want to, and so will each individual on here. If you can’t take it bro, I’d suggest you go elsewhere.

My opinion is I think it’s selfish, egotistical, and greedy to cash those giant checks knowing he isn’t doing his best to make Clemson football the best it can be.
Anyone that could be hired at Clemson now, could win games in this weak conference. What he is doing is the bare minimum.
His impressive resume was built on a time that is way back in the rear view mirror.
I hope some people can understand what’s happening here. And I hope people can differentiate between hating a man, and being in complete disgust at what he’s doing. I think Dabo is an incredible human being. I also think what he’s done to his program through stubburn behavior is almost sinful.
Apologies in advance to the feminist fans on here. The Tigernet Karen’s.

“The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people with limited competence in a particular domain overestimate their abilities.”
I’d suggest the domain, as it relates to Tnet, is football.

The best 4 are equal to the last 4 might be a little hyperbolic. We finished 16, 12, 20, 11 the last four years. But Danny went unranked 4 out of 11 seasons. Dabo has gone 14 consecutive seasons being ranked and only wasn’t ranked in one 1 of his 16 seasons. Anyone even slightly unhappy about state of our program today would have been apoplectic by the end of the 1985 season.

Dabo is and most likely will forever be the greatest football coach in Clemson history. I'm not even remotely arguing Ford was better, although I will say if he hadn't been fired he would have won more titles and possibly another Natty.
I grew up going to Clemson games during the Ford era and it was a magical time just like David great run. I don't even have the desire or need to back up the statement that Ford's best four years were better than our last four under Dabo. That was one of the stupidest statemtents I have ever read on TNet, and disrespectful to Danny and anyone that truly knows how good we were during that era.
Both those dudes are absolute gods to me, now and always. Sorry to get in the way of the fringe pumper/dumper crowds constant arguments. I really don't care for either crowd just like the fringe folks in politics.

It’s not the loss, we looked lost as a team and coaching staff in our own house. We are 1-3 in our last 4. And scored averaged 12 points in our last two games at home. We’ve had a carousel of coaches coming in and out with little improvement. We are not sound in any phase of the game.

Mr. Taylor you are sooo right. Dabo is by far our best coach ever and whilst I hate that we lost, everything still ahead of us.
D is significantly better, we need to get offense going. I think we will. I am starting to question Riley, but let’s see what is next.

only one acc team getting in anyway most likely
Miami helped themselves tonight
it does matter though because a win like this “could” put you in playoff without a conference title….potentially
this loss puts us into the ACC champ or zero playoff chance category
“loss literally means nothing” and questioning others IQ
it means a lot!
especially when you play in this conference that is getting marginalized

Like it or not even legends hit the backside of their careers. Is Dabo at this point?...not sure. However, in the last 5 years we are closer to the results of the beginning of his tenure then we are to our National title chasing era. The results against like minded major football programs speak for themselves. Georgia, LSU, Texas...all the same result. The opening day games, zero offense. Unfortunately at this particular moment in our programs history we do no stand toe to toe with Ohio State or Alabama. Ohio State won a national title last year and just best the #1 ranked team in the country. Clemson has just lost 4 in a row to the SEC with additional losses to the likes of Louisville and our hated rival. Before we can claim to be elite we have to win games over someone other than Pitt, Wake, or NC State. 10 wins in the worst conference is not bragging material if we lose every time to the likes of LSU. 2018 is getting further and further in the rear view mirror. Can we still in win it all? Sure...anything is possible. Lets not lie to ourselves and pretend the product on the field the last 5 years is anything close to elite though.

I think your point is spot on and what’s wrong with just about everything from college football to politics. The current crop seems incapable of conceiving there was a time before this time where people lived their lives and did stuff. The word “unprecedented” gets thrown around for things that are literally precedented. I want to win games too but I love football and I love the Clemson Tigers. I don’t remember being so heartbroken watching all those losses you referenced. Perhaps we’ve built up our expectations higher than we ought? To quote an old colleague of mine “if a college football game ruins your whole weekend you might need to step back and get some perspective.” Cue the all the people about to call me a coot…

Well said , Consider a lot of these posters were five and six years old when Dabo took over a horrid program under Tommy Bowden. No one likes losing, especially on ESPN at night to a top 10 team. We will get things cleaned up, it is not the end of the world. Imagine waking up in Tuscaloosa. Go Tigers.

anymore. That's a pattern. I don't want Dabo fired, but I am concerned. Not gonna bury my head in the sand and insist everythings a-ok.

I'm either 80 and have a 53 IQ or I'm 53 and have an 80 IQ.

Most days I can't tell the difference anymore.
I do know that my football IQ is somewhere in the Forrest Gump range, and I'm not ashamed to say it. Just watched a former D1 QB break down film on Texas/Ohio State and had absolutely no idea what he was talking about.
Dabo Swinney made the program. Were it not for Dabo, none of us would enjoy the privilege of even having expectations each season, much less seeing them come to fruition or nearly so.

and the most popular threads are about politics, religion, and other irrelevant crap. Chit, there was a thread recently about hating yankees that was active for over a week. Probably hit HOF status. LOL

I have a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson. Been retired for 13 years. Worked in industry for 35 years. The team is not equivalent to Ohio State. I watched them dominate Texas Saturday. Playing Troy Saturday will make the team look good, but the next week against Georgia Tech will be a challenge. Florida State is back. South Carolina will beat us.

OSU had 14 pts, 11 first downs and 203 total yds. Texas was not dominated. Ridiculous.
