But then someone will walk in with an M4 and kill them before killing others.
According to police, surveillance footage showed the gunman exit a double-parked BMW around 6:30 p.m. carrying an M4 rifle, walk across a public plaza and enter the building. Once inside the lobby, he began “spraying it with gunfire,” New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said.
Tamura shot four people in the lobby, including an NYPD officer who was working as a corporate security detail, officials said.
He then took the elevator to the 33rd-floor offices of Rudin, a building management firm, where he shot and killed another person before fatally shooting himself in the chest, according to authorities.
At the end of the day, I don't think even cops in schools will be enough in the future.

Are they police officers, or Church security. We have an armed security team. Each service has designated members of this team present.

I remember, back in the day, no cops were needed in schools. It wasn't a big deal to see a rifle, or shotgun, in a rack, in a truck. I'd guess 75% of the boys carried a pocket knife. There were fights, sure enough, but they were usually carried out, off of school grounds, and the fights were between two individuals. No one ever joined in, the fights were settled between the two. What has changed in over 55 years?

Both sides of my family have been hunters and gun enthusiasts and not once has one one those guns jumped out of the gun cabinet and killed someone! Pretty amazing how we all bought guns that just behave.

In 1991 the murder rate in the United States was 10.7/100,000 people. In 2023 the murder rate was 6.61 and trending downward.
And yet most Americans seem to think we live in a particularly dangerous time.
It seems as if the facts do not matter.
I am a very old guy and think I have lived my life in a largely safe, peaceful and profitable time. I live very close to the center of the largest city in the two Carolinas. I have lived in the same house for 40 years or so. Here is the latest Charlotte police report on crime in my city:
City of Charlotte (.gov) https://www.charlottenc.gov › cmpd › News-Information Mid-Year Crime Stats Show Promising Decline Citywide· Homicides are down 29% · Aggravated assaults are down 25% · Robberies are down 21%. Proactive measures.
But it seems like no one likes good news.

Sorry you missed the point, but it's our society that has changed. Plus the fact that we're getting farther away from God. In the early thirties, if you had the money, you could buy a BAR, or Thompson sub machine gun, as easily as you could a hunting rifle. Both of those weapons can fire 600 rounds per minute. That's a lot of lead. Do statistics tell, how many times people went into schools, theaters, or other public places and indiscriminately murdered people, during that period of time? What has changed is the fact, that we've lost sight of the concept, that there are consequences for our actions, whether right or wrong. That's something that used to be taught in schools and Churches. Also, what do stats say about people, that are killed by drunk drivers, over the course of those thirty years? Where are the outraged politicians, banging that drum. As far as drinking goes, what responsible people do is up to them. Responsible people, don't get behind the wheel of a car, while they are snookered, nor do responsible gun owners murder innocent people.
As far as prayer, unfortunately; our Churches aren't immune from evil, or stupidity, but I'd still take the fervent prayers of a righteous person any day, and knowledge that my life, and the lives of my friends, and family, are in the hands of Devine providence. Sorry some folks find humor in that.

Your argument kills itself. No guns or knives are showed on school grounds. When I, the other payer and many others as well went to school, plenty of boys had shotguns and rifles in their cars and trucks. Even more varied pocket knives. So if it is simply a numbers game, you contradict yourself.

I don't speak for every Church, in this country, but that's not my Church. We've given countless hours, and countless dollars to people that were facing unfortunate times. The only thing we ever asked in return was to come and hear the Word of God preached, and to hopefully feel the moving of Gods Holy Spirit, and even that wasn't a requirement, just a request.

Whether you believe or not, who cares?? but you should be interested in todays society compared to 20-30-70yrs ago. Bottomline, if you dont believe in God, please believe that the 'Morals' gained are beyond what zero church and NO 'present parents' society has achieved!
If you like peace, teach the Morals of the Bible, and you might get there one day!

I would really want a few licensed and trained teachers be able to have a weapon in a lock box in their classroom.
The last school incident in Georgia could have been avoided had metal detectors been installed. The district was lax in security which is almost criminal with the taxes that they pay in the district.
Nothing is perfect but every little thing adds up.

Which is why we have laws, courts, etc...
But, I won't beat around the bush. No amount of legalism, handwringing, or emotional pleading will ever make people like this disappear.
In the immortal words of John Adams..."Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other". As a whole our country is neither moral or religious. The further we stray from God, the more haywire our world becomes.
We also have a SIZABLE and growing mental illness crisis in our country. I may just be spit-balling here....but something tells me that dude wasn't right in the head.
p.s. That guy likely never gets a chance to enter the building at my church. He'd have gotten picked off by security armed with AR-15's and handguns in the parking lot.

....but that won't prevent a criminal from bashing your skull in with it.
Also, there's no such thing as an "assault weapon" btw. Not a single gun manufacturer makes an assault weapon. They make guns, and all guns do the same thing.
Thanks, but I'll keep my guns so when the bad guys pull theirs out I have a fighting chance.
Drugs are illegal too. So is rape, pedophilia, etc.... Ever stop to think why that is?
Banning guns is simply not a coherent argument. Never gonna happen.

could ban drugs also, which is also crazy talk as it kills hundreds of thousands more than guns.
I bought an AR and was shocked to realize it shoots the same as my Henry 22. I thought I could just hold the trigger down and it wound empty the clip since that’s what people like you keep saying, maybe mine isn’t working right.
Or we could go with the same gun laws California , Illinois, and New York has which is the preferred option by liberals but then I realized through research that they still have shootings so I don’t know. I do know if you ban AR’s, we will not have anymore shootings

Only if they were actually using an assault rifles. AR-15’s are not assault rifles. Large mags but not assault rifles. Liberals know nothing about a gun, and cannot be taken seriously on anything regarding guns. Glad most are against having them. I’m afraid some of you would point it in the wrong direction and shoot yourself.
Not sure what states you can own a truly automatic rifle.

I brought in the first resource officer at my college right after the Virginia Tech massacre. No one on the Board opposed it. The officer and I agreed that he should not sit at a desk in the main lobby. He would be the first victim. Better to walk campus and be unpredictable.

The new AI building lockdown system will end active shooter threats. It scans for a rifle or pistol and automatically shutters the building. It’s coming. Many high tech buildings have already implemented this technology.
Gun control only makes it harder for law abiding citizens to obtain a firearm. You can’t legislate hate/murder out of people’s hearts. Blaming guns for violence is like blaming forks for making people fat. They are both tools and have repercussions when misused.

To be fair, I will take my chances in a public place with a knife wielding mass attacker than a dude with an automatic weapon and unlimited ammo. I can't outrun a bullet or I can't fight off bullets. I get your point though. I am not sure what the most killed in a mass stabbing is. That dude in Norway killed 69 students with his automatkc weapons. They couldn't escape him on that island. Doubt he could have pulled that off with a knife.

talk with SROs and talk with kids/ would prefer to have a cop with a pistol against the AR gunman than none at all. Not enough attention is given to another societal change during this time span which is violent video games. When I ask kids what they like about their favorite game, it is disturbing how many say it is the fact that “you get to kill people”. These are very young kids, most of whom won’t be inclined to become mass killers but it possibly increases the chance that those who already somewhat disturbed will move closer to violence more so than they would have been prior to these games.

Florida is pretty aggressive with this. I’m a food service director for a charter school system and carry undercover. There’s about 4 of us at the high school. We go through training at sheriffs facility and have to pass a course with higher rating than the deputies do to be able to carry. Not a fool proof system but definitely increases odds of taking out active shooter. We also hire one additional deputy on each campus to go along with our guardians

When I hear people against having metal detectors and/or armed security guards at school, I ask this question, but have yet to hear an argument that sways me against it.
If we have high-tech detectors and/or police at airports, train stations, courthouses, sporting venues,etc... then why not at schools where our society's most precious and vulnerable resources are?
