went on to the National Championship game against Louisville and lost that game - Louisville was the National Champion in 1980.
And to get the game - I had to go up on my roof of my house in NC and listen to an AM radio - Jim Phillips calling the game.
As a young kid - that loss was crushing - I cried like a baby.

Me too. Best BYU and Lamar, lost to Kiki Vandeweigh (sp?) UCLA (maybe Rod Foster as a freshman)?
Figured we’d be back soon like almost all other ACC teams. . .
Finally so. Great run so far and have not even played best game
JG3 gets hot and BB may have his own trophy to show off on campus

I was only 8 years old and not really aware of March Madness. I played little league baseball and football, so those were the sports I followed somewhat.
I know who Larry Nance was however, played for a while in the NBA. He was still playing when I got into the NBA in the early 80s due to Bird/Magic and later Jordan.

Yes I was around. Just off probation and we thought we were going to be a factor in the ACC. The next year some guy named Jordan showed up at UNC then a couple years later the 3-point shot comes in. It’s way overdue. Time to finally kick the door in.

My sophomore year. An amazing team. I recall sellouts as we watched the other ACC stars come into town. But fondest memory is watching Billy Williams use the bank shot to perfection

I was around and watching that game in the background as I ate barbecued chicken with my y-basketball teammates.
