He wasn’t a top recruit he was third string and they fumbled that into a natty… DJ is a big miss on everyone, my guess is the family stuff caught up to him, he didn’t forget how to be awesome, he’s done that his entire life, but his personal life is falling apart.

though they have been absolutely snake bit this year. 3 guys we were counting on; William's, Ladson and Spector have hardly played. And Ngata out today. Other than Ross we were playing the JV receivers today

It’s coaching.
We should have been running so many reps in practice the offense should hum like a machine. Look back at the last several years. The offense always starts horrible. We aren’t doing a good job of getting them ready in the off-season.

IMO we did not necessarily miss on DJ. I have seen players have off years. But you can’t put all of this of DJ. There were several catchable passes dropped. Whose is to say unless you are on Clemson’s Coach staff the OL is not played 100 Percent and that the receiver’s an every route correctly.
A lot of pieces are missing this year. At some point we knew Clemson could have an off year. That is this year. Their are several reasons for play this year but please stop putting everything negative thing that happens because you are wrong. It not all on Tony Elliot either.
And all of you complaining fans don’t think you are hurting the program with you negative comments should listen more and comment less.
Several NFL players admitted that negative comments by fans has an affect on college and NFL teams and can negatively affect recruiting.
Unfortunately, I feel like my post will go in one ear and out the other and sadly the negative comments will continue and could cost us a really talented recruit’s. They read these boards.!

With all due respect, go find a fan base with a decent football program or expectations of one that does not complain.
That means all the 5 stars would go to Duke, UNC, and Kansas because all they care about is basketball.

But he is nowhere near the QB that people thought he was going to be. I mean people were saying he was going to be the same as Trevor, already elevation him to the Watson/Lawrence category.
Great QBs elevate their teams, and he just isn't great. There is just no way to say that he is.

I am putting my faith in a coaching staff who has won 2 NC ‘s in 6 years played for 4, won 10 games or more 10 consecutive years, lead Clemson to a historical 15-0 season and gave Clemson football it’s greatest decade in the history of the program. They even gave Urban his first shut out in his college career as a HC. I can deal with a down year or even two because I believe the Tigers will be back sooner than later. I am willing to give Dabo, the coaches and the players time to develop and recruit I don’t think Dabo and his staff have forgotten how to coach. We are not as deep as we have been in the past. I blame NIL and the transfer portal on some on the Tigers issues a long with injuries.
But I don’t think anything positive comes from many of the post on Tigernet the last several weeks. What is positively accomplished by Tigernet members throwing coaches and players under the bus. If I am a recruit I might reconsider coming to Clemson because a lot of fans turn on the team the first time they have adversity.
All I am trying to accomplish with my post is to show recruits things are different at Clemson. The fans stay behind you they really support they truly are a family.
But reading this board since the start of the season I have to call BS. The fans will turn on your and the coaches during adversity. Are they really the big unity family they talk about!
Clemson players read this stuff too. We are talking about a group of kids that need encouragement and support from the fan’s more than ever. Let the coaches handle the players development, make corrections or adjust the depth chart.
Think before you post. Ask yourself, will my post benefit and encourage this team or will it hurt the team by showing my lack of support and anger during their recent adversity.
Are we still the solid supportive fan base we use to be or are we like most other fans who bail on their team when times get tuff???

When was the last time you saw any Clemson QB get coached to be better rather than regress? Boyd from 2010 to 2011 is the last one I can remember.

Woody Dantzler was not any good in 1998. He was good in 1999 and very good in 2000 and 2001.
Charlie Whitehurst was pretty good in 2002, and much better in 2003, better yet again in 2004, and very good in 2005. His 2005 play got him into the NFL for a few years as a backup (i.e., "Clipboard Jesus")
You mentioned T.Boyd.
After Boyd, you had Deshaun and T.Lawrence, both of whom were 'ready to go' when they arrived.

Woody was ALWAYS good.
If we had Woody this year we’d be undefeated.

A few years? CW rode that does a while. Good player who would have won an NC with the talent we have today. Woody would have as well.

Sadly he was better with less time in the system. Players regress under these offensive coaches.

We all saw DJ last year (granted a small sample), and I think we all thought we were set at QB. Somebody broke him, either the coaching staff, the pressure he put on himself, or both. The wr's have also regressed in a shocking manner

Maybe it’s mental maybe TE. Irrefutable that he’s a bad QB. Not good at all. Don’t care how far he can throw it.

His parents have filed for divorce. And it all happened as soon as DJ got his NIL money. His personal problems are causing problems on the field.

If we missed on DJ

Then so did every recruiting expert in the country. There’s now way everybody was wrong.
I think it’s safer to say we missed on QB coach, Receiver coach, and Oline coach.

Sometimes the experts are wrong, all of them. DJ was overhyped because he was from SoCal for sure. I think he can do much better and is probably talented enough to lead us to a league and national championship but he has to develop and play up to his potential to do it. Why he has regressed is anyone's guess.

Hate to say it: 247 missed. Rivals missed. ESPN was right

Like most here, I thought it was nuts that 247 and Rivals had DJ in their top 10 while ESPN had DJ way down at #43. Looks like ESPN's two-man operation of Tom Luginbill and [whatever the other guy's name is] knew what they were doing.
The two games last year put DJ up on a pedestal he couldn't stay on.
My 2 cents is the early success caused DJ to grow complacent and he didn't work hard to improve himself in the offseason. I also think DJ gained 15-20 more lbs which is why he looked like a plodding lineman the first 4 games.
One last thing: I'm NOT an insider so take this for what it's worth. I don't think DJ's teammates like him.

I was kinda friends with him in college. I mean his girlfriend was friends with my girlfriend so we hung out.
He was having an awful time fitting in with his teammates and it was because he was sort of the prima donna type.
When I saw the VLOG with DJ hanging out with the equipment room guys I wondered if DJ was having the same issues.
Then the midnight pass throwing thing without his WRs there including Collins who played with him in HS got me thinking the same thing.
If so, poor guy. He seems like a good dude with a good family.

I actually told a co-worker at the start of the season Big Stinko would be as good as TLaw.
I listened to Walt Deptula too much.
During the GTech game I knew I was wrong. Made a post and have been roasted since.

A player who is overrated coming out of high school can’t possibly start two games as a true freshman and play like he did. He was LIGHTS OUT.
The talent is there. It was obvious as a freshman last year, and it was obvious in high school.
I think what we are seeing this year is a combination of poorly coached talent around him, especially on OL but also at receiver, coupled with the immense pressure of being a Heisman candidate on an elite team in the era of NIL. He has a lot of pressure on him.
DJ didn’t forget how to play football. He’s working hard, so the speculation that he is complacent isn’t fair IMO. Plus, everything I’ve heard about him has been glowing in terms of his attitude, so he seems to be coachable and a good teammate.
This is when the coaches must figure out how to get him playing better, putting him (and his teammates) in positions to excel. This is why we pay our staff over $15 million a year. It’s their job to deal with adversity. So far this year, they have failed.
