If a Muslim wants to pray at the 50 yard line after a football game, that person is protected by the 1st amendment.
Not sure what this has to do with congress passing laws regarding the establishment of religion

It was because he was a coach and therefore an authority figure, I think. It seems like there are disputed facts about what he supposedly did. Either he prayed silently to himself or he led a group of students in prayer.

Well there you go. He's not a member of Congress trying to pass laws regarding the establishment of religion.

Oh I see. You are correct.
The clause has been stretched far beyond its original meaning. In fact, none of the rights in the Bill of Rights was even applicable to the States for quite a long time.

You certainly understand that law better than me, but it seems like the only problem that would come into play, is if the coach were giving benefits for praying or punishing players for not praying.

I don’t think any tax dollars should be used for school.

We should be.

I'm an old white guy Christian, and I understand that in America, the whole idea is that we are free to live as we see fit as long as it does not interfere with other people's right to do the same. If I expect to be free to believe, express, and practice Christianity, I have to be willing to allow Muslims or people of any other religion the same freedom.
Our founders were Christian for the most part, and were certainly influenced by Christianity, and that is certainly reflected in their writings and in many of the principles and laws they laid out when founding this great nation. That means something, and we should consider and respect that. However, they were brilliant men for the most part, with exceptional visionary qualities, and they had every opportunity to make Christianity the official religion of America, or dictate that it hold some special lofty place in perpetuity in our government and in our society, but in their great wisdom, they very consciously did not. They stuck to their guns, stayed consistent, and left religion up to the individual. And I still get to be a Christian.
