How about Dave Clawson at Penn State?

I think from that area and can you imagine his coaching with their support, money and NIL. The only reason he failed late at Wake is they really struggled when the NIL era started. They could not compete...

Would surprise me if he jumped back into coaching that quickly. Not to mention talk about pressure. He doesn't strike me as a guy that would want to dive into that snake pit.

Alumni and BOT would never go for a long time coach at Wake Forest. They will want a pedigree hire.

Doubt the PSU faithful would get excited about his "mesh" offense.

I would go after either Lane Kiffin because he’s got a high octane off fence that’s needed up there or I would consider Miami’s coach he supposed to do the transfer portal real well

The Dave Clawson developmental program filled with seniors cannot exist in today’s college football

Were you a student of the game, you would realize that CDC found an offense which could have success against equal or slightly superior defenses. Gave WF a chance to win as many games as possible given their inferior talent (due to NIL). Much like Paul Johnson, a vastly superior coach at an under funded school. FWIW, Johnson or Clawson at PSU would be hard to beat

Clawson was a great coach and a prefect fit for Wake in the pre-NIL era. His biggest deficiencies were clock management in short time situations.
I’m failry certain he left the game on his own terms with no regrets after realizing the game had become more about free agency and watching his best players repeatedly left for bigger paydays. Plus, he has a special envoy position in the Wake AD and is beloved in Winston. I would be surprised if he re enters P4 coaching, but would not be surprised to see him in a volunteer role at a place like RJReynolds or Parkland High Schools where the resources are severely limited.

I knew both CPJ and Clawson - not well, but well enough. Johnson was incredibly prickly but one #### of a coach and a devoted family man and in his pew every Sunday he was in town during the off season. Clawson was steady Eddie, and the kind if coach you’d want your kid to play for. Like Cutcliffe at Duke, they knew how good they had it in their spots where they could just coach football without the incredible pressures at premier schools.
A big time program would need to offer something far more than just a big paycheck to lure away that kind of man. Now, if Clemson or one of the few remaining big time programs with true a community AND a full complement of resources had come calling, they would have listened.
