He did an amazing job taking us to the top, but has done rather poorly at keeping us there. And it’s a common problem…lots of books have been written about summit syndrome and similar problems after reaching the pinnacle.
For whatever reason, Dabo chose to use all of the money and political capital that came with the two national championships for rewarding the people that got him there instead of doing what it takes to stay there. That’s just who Dabo is. I think you’ll continue to see the decline unless he changes who he is, which might take a while for the pressure to mount to that point.
Interesting take on Dabo. And then there are guys like Saban, who surrounded themselves with guys who were looking for redemption (quite a long list---Sark, Kiffin, Smart to name a few)......there are some lessons for Dabo here.
