South Carolina Highway 186 is a 14.96 mile state highway that runs from SC 8 near Pickens in Pickens County, east and northeast to SC 276 in Slater-Marietta in Greenville County just above Travelers Rest.

Clemson's baseball opponent today is USC Upstate, originally called USC Spartanburg with the name change in 2004. It is part of the University of South Carolina System with about 5,000 students on 330 acres and also part of the University Center Greenville with 7 schools in the Greenville/Spartanburg area. It was founded in 1967 as a two-year college when Spartanburg General Hospital discontinued it's nursing degree program, but expanded to a 4 year college in 1975 with degrees in colleges of arts, science and technology, nursing, education and health, and business and economics. Notable alumni include Spartanburg mayor Jerome Rice, author Wilson Casey, and Tigernet's Jedi Kermit.

186 - Hunter Renfrow Made 186 Receptions for Clemson

One the greatest underdog stories you could want.

A high school QB, Hunter Renfrow (2015-2018) received no offers from Power 5 programs. None.

As Clemson.edu put it:

Hunter Renfrow had a choice to make about his future. A two-sport athlete in high school, he had scholarship offers from smaller regional schools to play college baseball and football. His other option was to join the Clemson Football team as a walk-on wide receiver.

https://www.clemson.edu/lets-begin/begin-with-belief.html

Many people would have chosen the safe path that included a scholarship and playing time. Renfrow, however, is clearly not like most people. And, Clemson Nation will be forever changed by the mark this preferred walk-on would make.

While at Clemson:

After redshirting the 2014 season, Renfrow received a well-earned scholarship to start the the 2015 season. By midseason, Renfrow was starting on a Top 10 ranked team that was rolling through an undefeated regular season. For four years, higher ranked WR recruits were on the bench watching Renfrow start.

According to ClemsonTigers.com the numbers for this little WR who started as a walk-on were truly amazing:

- Original walk-on who earned a scholarship in August 2015 and put together one of the most unlikely yet storied careers in Clemson history
- Finished career with 186 receptions for 2,133 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2,408 snaps over 55 games (47 starts) in his career
- Owns Clemson records for starts by a receiver (47) and consecutive games with a reception (43)
- Exited Clemson ranked fifth in career receptions (186) and 11th in career receiving yards (2,133)
- Posted College Football Playoff records with 37 receptions and four touchdowns in seven career CFP games
- Also contributed as an emergency quarterback and punter as a senior

In Renfrow’s senior year (2018):
- Renfrow won the Burlsworth Trophy as college football’s most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on
- Renfrow won the Bobby Bowden Award winner as the Division I player who epitomizes dedication to faith, family, friends and football
- Renfrow was third-team All-ACC

Renfrow only scored four touchdowns combined in the 2015-2016 and the 2016-2017 season National Title Games. But, he will forever be remembered for that (glorious) fourth one!!

After Clemson:

The Oakland Raiders selected Renfrow with the 149 pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. Over the last five seasons now with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders, Renfrow has made 269 receptions for 2,884 yards (10.7 average) and 17 touchdowns.

Renfrow was selected to the 2022 Pro Bowl.

186 - Keith Adams Made 186 Tackles for Clemson

If there were one word to describe Clemson LB Keith Adams (1998-2000), it would be “Relentless!”

His stats are jaw-dropping! ClemsonTigers.com describes Keith Admas Sr’s Clemson career as follows:
- Two-time All-American (1999 and 2000)
- ACC Defensive Player of the Year (1999)
- Finalist for Butkus Award and Bednarik Award (2000)
- National Defensive Player of the Year Finalist by Football News (2000)
- Set Clemson single season record for tackles (186) and sacks (16) in 1999
- Set Clemson single game tackle record with 27 vs. South Carolina in 1999
- Had 379 career tackles, ninth in Clemson history even though he played just three years

https://clemsontigers.com/sports/football/roster/keith-adams/#bio

As shown above, Adams set a number of Clemson records. Of particular note, the Gamechickens had no answer for Adams during the 1999 game in Columbia. According to ClemsonTigers.com:

Clemson inside linebacker Keith Adams was credited with 27 tackles after a review of the film from the South Carolina game on Monday. The tackle total is an all-time Clemson single game record, breaking the mark by Ring of Honor member Jeff Davis, who had 24 tackles against North Carolina in 1980.

Adams also had four tackles for loss, including three sacks for -32 yards. He also caused a fumble and had two quarterback pressures.

Adams has set five Clemson records this year. In addition to the tackle for loss and sack figures on a season basis, he also has established single game records for tackles, tackles for loss (6) and sacks (4).

https://clemsontigers.com/adams-breaks-single-game-tackle-record/

After Clemson:

The Tennessee Titans selected Adams with the 232nd pick of the 2001 NFL Draft. He was picked up by the Dallas Cowboys before the season. Adams played seven NFL seasons (2001 to 2007) with Dallas, Philadelphia, Miami, and Cleveland. He registered 172 tackles (147 solo and 25 assisted).

His son, Keith Adams Jr., shows a lot of promise as a RB for the Tigers!
