NIL was never intended...

to make college athletes millionaires or lead to a bidding war for recruits, but anyone with any common sense could seen this coming from a mile away. It's totally unregulated so some schools are absolutely going to abuse it.

Rules and guidelines can be established within the parameters of the courts decision. It doesn't have to be the wild west. Organization can have rules.

Yes, but who establishes those guidelines and rules?

The NCAA sure isn't going to touch it, and even if they did, they would just **** it up.

depending on who you're referring to:
-Smart Joe Fan w/ foresight and common sense thought: "if you open this can of worms there's nothing to stop million dollar bidding wars for players and recruits"
-Average Joe Fan w/ no foresight or common sense thought: "there's no problem giving an athlete the opportunity to make some extra spending cash for movies and pizza every now and then, afterall they're starving to death and can't afford life's necessities because they're always at practice and can't get jobs"
-Players & Players' lawyers thought: "if we could just get a small piece of what colleges and video game companies are making from me we can be millionaires"

The concern is...

now that this horse is out of the barn, getting it back in may be really difficult if not impossible.
The NCAA has no spine or teeth and even if they did, they can't afford to defend the countless lawsuits that will ensure, so they aren't going to do anything. Even if they did, they would just botch it.

The same with transferring...

There should be a rule in place that specifically requires transfers to sit out one year before being eligible to play, and then apply it fairly and consistently. No loopholes, no lawsuits, no bull$#!7 excuses (a/k/a Justin Fields), and no b!tching and moaning. You want to transfer, that's fine. Knock yourself out. However, you are going to sit for one year PERIOD end of discussion!!!

Before NIL, before the $5000 stipend P5 college football player throughout the 85 man were treated like kings on campus & in their respective cities. Everything's comped. Had a friend that never started a game for a typically awful SC squad and witnessed this VIP treatment first hand, in and around the city of Columbia.

Finally, it looks like administrators are looking at NIL and plan to set some guidelines. It is a big can of worms that they need to reel in. Thanks for sharing, article gives me hope.

Yes, and that’s what is so sad about all of this. He made millions and will, in fact, earn some type of buyout also in the millions all the while athletes couldn’t even accept a pizza from someone. Smh…
