Here's My Take On The LSU Clemson Game

On offense, we must see a better offensive line protecting Klubnick and giving him more time to throw to receivers. Also, OL must open a hole for our running backs. The OL will be the key to our offense scoring.
On defense, we must see a much improved and aggressive defense blitzing and putting pressure on LSU QB. Also, defense must be aggressive in passing coverage. A pick six would be nice. I think our whole season will rest on what Coach Luke and Allen can put on the field. I am sure that Allen will put a better D on the field than what Goodwin failed to do.
I think the team is getting the positive press and accolades due to the expectations of what Coaches Luke and Allen will bring to the team this year.
Is 17-0 possible? Well, if one believes that anything is possible, why not? One game win at a time. Stay focused and don't look ahead and treat every game and every team as though it is the best team on our schedule and is a must win game.

17-0 is virtually impossible. You would have to miss the first round bye in the playoff in order to play the extra game to get you to 17. There's just no way a 13-0 conference champion is not in the top 4 of the playoff ranking, therefore earning the bye.

FSU was left out 2 years ago despite being an undefeated conference champ. Even if we take last year which had tons of upsets, if BYU had managed to go undefeated, which I might argue they were two plays away from being, they would not have been in the top 4.
1. Oregon 2. Georgia 3. Texas 4. Penn State

I hear what you’re saying. Is it possible? Yes, though unlikely.
The FSU example was from a different playoff format.
My argument is we are never going to see a case where we have 5 undefeated conference champs. Because that’s the only scenario where an undefeated team doesn’t get a bye

The byes for conference champs is no longer a thing. Just top 4 get a bye. 5 top conference champs just have to be included in the playoff.
Meaning, if you take last year for example, Clemson still gets in, but Boise State and Arizona State no longer get a bye.
I would argue given that they have to be included in the playoff we are more likely to see an undefeated conference champ out of the top 4 than we would have during the 4 team playoff.

Good assessment. I think you're spot on about the OL. On defense, I'd say it's more a question of being creative with your blitzes moreso than being aggressive. Same with disguising your coverages vs being aggressive. Last year, offenses didn't have to do much guessing to attack your D.

The aggressiveness and intensity on defense is what we have lacked the last few years. Creativity and deception are great things, but none of that works without the defense, especially the D-line being more aggressive than we have been recently.

It's not that simple. It's easy to attack an aggressive defense when you anticipate it. You have to create confusion in the OL and/or with the QB. Example in our game last year: we had a drive in the red zone and had about 6 or 7 yards to go for a 1st. It was either 2nd or 3rd down, and you showed S blitz, and came with a S blitz. This created a 1-on-1 with Lovett, who made his man miss and got the 1st down to the 1 yard line. And you could see it coming a mile away, which Beck did. Had you showed S, but dropped him back at the snap and brought the LB instead, or rolled coverage and drop the DE, or something creative, you would have had the same aggression but make us guess, then you probably tackle Lovett for no gain (or maybe a loss). That was the story of that 2nd half.

LSU spent an entire period On Monday trying to Negate Our Defensive Pressure, by working on Screen Plays. They threw to the Running Backs, Tight Ends, and receivers. They worked on Middle Screens, Tunnel Screens, Jet Sweep Throwbacks and more. They Really want to get their Playmakers in Space with Room to Roam. They are also working on Snapping the Ball to The Upback instead of the QB. Their DB's are Playing Very aggressive and Physical. They are Certainly Gonna force the Officials Hand Here. Maybe Someone can post the Link. There is a lot of detailed Information about their Last 2 Practices.(I'm Sure There's More) Louisianasports.net

Putting a lot of emphasis on gadget plays sounds like they may believe that they can’t just line up with us and beat us. Those are usually born out of desperation. I like it.

All that Trickeration and Misdirection can cause problems if you're ill-prepared for it. They have Very Good Speed with their receivers and they're gonna take their shots downfield. They think they can beat our Secondary with their Elite Speed. Barion Brown runs a Sub 4.4 Forty. Seems their Defense has been winning in Practice.

So summing up what you said...if we score more points on offense and allow LSU to score less points then we will likely win.

I believe we will do most of the things which you point out we must do to succeed. Winning em all is rare for anyone but it's possible according to whether the POC screws us like they've always done in their post regular season rankings.

Key on defense starts with run defense followed by QB pressure.

You missed the most important issue for the whole season - tackling must improve. I don’t know where the current trend is to try and knock runners down started. You have to hit them and wrap your arms around them to tackle.
