The ACJ article was pretty damaging and it directly hurt their chances with one particular recruit, who cited that article.
It was actually smart on his part. If he's that adamant that he's not quitting, it will be tougher for rival coaches to use that against him on the recruiting trail.

The very last thing that Spursucks want to see, is for our rivalry to get back to the way it was. He really got Lucky lucky that Clemson had just fired our coach in the middle of the season. Those dandy dozen we got in recruiting that year, was half of the other dandy dozen we lost bc of TB's firing. The record would have been a lot different than it is for Spursucks if TB would have been fired after signing day that year.
