Offensive Strategy against Georgia
4
Aug 1, 2024, 11:03 PM
|
|
1) Air it out (Beyond 5 yards past the line of scrimmage) Attempt to build confidence with early big chunks, risk a quick 3 and out.
2) Work hard to establish Mafah, reminiscent of the Notre Dame game. Assists the defense by keeping Georgia’s offense off the field. Risk Georgia scoring anyway, and now shortening the game when you have fallen behind.
3) Call radically different play calls to keep them off balance, risk not playing to your strengths.
4) Turn into 1st quarter Duke or Rob Spence and never throw the ball past the line of scrimmage. Screen, screen, screen.
While 4 is my worst fear, I like option 2 because I do think we can start hammering their front and see if we can wear them down for some bigger runs in the second half. But I do worry we might shorten the game to our detriment, and take ourselves out by the fourth quarter if Georgia can continue to put up points.

Have them dress up as law enforcement officers. Then watch how all those huge gaping holes open up for Mafah....and even Klubnik..... because they're going to be getting out of the way.

If you dress them up as LEOs they have to go sit in the UGA fan section.

Option 2. UGA had the nation's #2 rush defense in 2021 and #1 in 2022. Last year that dropped to #20. Dawgs were top 10 last year against the pass. Clemson's best chance in this game is to have success on the ground.

Referencing wins from 2016, 2018, and 2019 is a great strategy and will serve Clemson well on August 31st. You should be a head coach.

Georgia wins when Alabama is down Michigan win when Ohio State is down Florida State wins when Clemson is down
get to 4out of 5 straight National Championship games vs first class programs
the only reason it wasn't Clemson and Alabama in 2018 was because the champion was decided in the first round

There is no doubt Gawga is good upfront on defense. But when your offense jumps out to a quick lead, your defensive front doesn’t see a lot of running plays, hence good run against stats. We need to pound it, pound it, pound it and the. Take an occasional shot.

Marah will face an 8 man box until Cade stops crapping his pants when it matters most. If Cade can't find and hit the open guys 9-3 or 8-4. Brace yourselves!!

UGA will blitz almost every down

You might have to see quite a few short pass plays. Unless we burn them enough, then they will stop blitzing and we can establish a ground game.
What I am hoping to see is a couple deep shots, but more importantly, I just want to see us utilizing motion more. Motion helps in a lot of ways, but it certainly helps to identify defensive schemes and also test the discipline of the defense.
A few jet sweeps, a fake jet sweep handoff to Mafah, some quick slants, and some play action would set us up in a good position. Just gotta block. That’s what the game will come down to. Gotta have time to throw.

Our core philosophy has always been to establish the run even when we were pass heavy. Zero chance what we do or should do will not be #2. If they stuff the run we better hope wesco and Moore are the next Sammy and nuk and klubnik has progressed at least to Tajh Boyd’s level.

Got to get the ball to to Briningstool regularly on downfield throws to make the LB’s play honest. This and we need to connect on a few 50/50 balls on the boundary to either Randall or Moore. Pepper Mafah in regularly of course but UGA will load the box and that won’t change unless we have success throwing the ball downfield.

Best deep ball passer still. Feels like he never missed. Certainly helped he had a dude that almost never dropped the ball in Hopkins.

Slow play it with runs and short passes to the TEs and slants to the WRs while using other WRs on deep sideline and post patterns to spread out the UGA DBs. After 2 or 3 series, Garrett and the Analysts should start earning their money by having a good idea what the UGA D is doing. From that point on, turn-up the tempo using the whole playbook until the UGA defense can't catch their breath in the 4th quarter.
NO TURNOVERS!!!!

by any method necessary. Georgia beat Clemson without scoring a single touchdown on offense, I will take a win over Georgia without a single touchdown by offense although I do not see that happening.

I just don't think Clemson can rush the ball on Georgia. Klubnik will be forced to throw..... a lot. Dawgs defense is going to eat! 3 ints and a ton of sacks. Maybe a pick 6.

Yeah, I would like to see Mafah get some runs in space. I don’t know how talented the Georgia defensive line is, but that might open up the throwing lanes as well.

Well I think they should have this as the “hope to accomplish” strategy, and then a backup plan in the case that Cade still has the jitters.
And especially against Georgia. You really do NOT want Cade to make a mistake throwing it and then have him do the same thing 2 more times. They are also that good.
So yes, if Cade finds rythm, then we’ll be good enough to beat anyone in the country
