Hate on Brownell

Some are calling anyone upset with basketball these days a "hater" who only post after we loose. I have only been here a year and have posted photos, memories, and etc basketball things. I admit that basketball is just a distraction for me when football is over. I have attended many games going back to the 60's.
As time clouds memories, did some research out here on the porch tonight. Here are some facts as to Clemson and ACC:
Brownell --> 9,8,5,10,8,10,6,11,11,9,9,10 --> average is 8.7.
Purnell --> 7,9,10,9,9 --> average is 8.8.
Shyatt --> 5,4,2,4,5 --> average is 4.
Barnes --> 5,7,9,7 --> average is 7.
Ellis --> 5,3,10,4,7,10,2,4,5,6 --average is 5.6.
Foster --> 5,8,3,5,8,6,4,2,3 --> average is 4.9.
What does all that mean?

The problem is we continue to employ an average coach.***

It means there are too many haters here:
Hate Brownell Hate Dabo Hate Elliott Hate Streeter Hate Grisham Hate Caldwell Hate 'em All
They are Tiger coaches and need to be supported, not hated on.

Let's be honest about Clemson basketball.

I like coach Brownell a lot. I think he is a great guy and an extremely knowledgable coach. Under different circumstances here, or at a different school, he may have regularly had top 10 teams - I don't know. But this much is absolutely undeniable:
Clemson is perfectly satisfied with perpetual mediocrity in basketball. That's exactly what the numbers you show above mean.
Brownell has certain traits and his teams have certain qualities and limitations that always keep them from getting to that next level. How much of that is on Brownell and how much of that is on the AD and the powers that be, is hard to know, but he's the coach and it's hard to totally seperate him from that consisten mediocrity.
I have been a Clemson basketball fan since I was a little kid. I will be one until I die. I will, however, be an honest fan, which sometimes means being critical, when called for. I hold out hope for the day when Clemson gets really serious about basketball, and commits to have a program that regularly competes for the ACC championship. It may never happen, but either way, I ain't going anywhere.

were the Tiger's standing each year in the ACC, then got down to Shyatt's average of 4, then knew it couldn't be that.

It took me a minute as well.
It's ACC regular season wins per season.

Numbers should be listed vertically so as to refute gravity

It means Brownell was/is the coach when the ACC expanded

the number of conference games. He had/has a better chance of winning more games based simply on the numbers. Plus the expanded conference brought in more teams that were not ACC caliber in the beginning. Bottom line, he has played more conference games. If he was more than an average coach, his number of wins should be higher.
