CU people sort of overlooked him because of Spiller but he is on a par with any back we have had at Clemson. Very solid player at the next level which says a lot about his ability.

If he can stay healthy the sky is the limit for him. We've always known his potential. I'm just glad he's on a team that's willing to allow him to shine.

Yeah. I think if he makes it through this season healthy and goes through another season of rehab work from previous nicks and injuries, he should be the de facto starter going into next season.

I said earlier this week, it's amazing how well he's improved his receiving abilities in the past 2 years. His junior year he struggled, senior year he got a lot better...
...and NOW YOU GOT GUYS SAYING THAT HE COULD BE THE #2 RECEIVER FOR A LOT OF TEAMS.
Well deserved praise for a great athlete and representative of the university.

I've tried to put my finger on why this offense doesn't feature more passes to the RB, and the only thing I can surmise is that they're needed so often for the misdirection - that the timing just isn't right in most cases...or they have to stay in to block.

One word - burst. You can't teach it.
As a pure runner in a ZBS, you can legitimately say that Andre's first step was just as fast as CJ's. Now obviously CJ had the breakaway speed. But you look at McDowell, who IMO is a ### good back, and he just doesn't have that initial burst that Ellington had.
It's something special and I'm glad he's getting an opportunity to show it off.

Rod's moves in the open field are about as good if not better than Andre's though, in my opinion. Andre had those subtle moves where he could move the slightest bit and the defender would be so faked out he would be on the ground with broken ankles. Rod just dances around out there, in a good way. Sometimes it blows my mind. When I think back on him a few years down the road the play that will come to mind is that spin and juke he put on the Georgia defense in the first game that went for a 30+ yard run. One of the coolest moves I have seen in a while.

Agreed completely. I've said time and time again that Rod has impressive, soft feet when it comes to making those moves. Spin move in the UGA game was just nasty.

juke or lateral evasiveness so I told the guy he was mentored by Spiller. Me and my mother (BIG Tiger fan) jokingly called him Minime, with spiller being whats his name saying "you complete me"

he was well schooled in the zone runs and was way ahead of his time here.
CJ could never run the ball like AE.

He makes an amazing 15-20 yard run, then trots to the sideline not to be heard from again until the next series, or maybe he doesn't even see the field the next series. That's not because he's injured or not durable; he's ready to go. I know he has been "injury prone", but that is not what is limiting his carries - breaking off multiple 10-20+ yard runs per game indicates to me he's pretty healthy. If he's hurt, sit him and let him heal; if he's healthy, turn him loose.

our guys in the pros. I don't get the pro-ball thing like college ball but guess its a rural thing.
Dig his story too because it shows how accurate the HS star rating system is. Also LOVE seeing others love anything Clemson- Card fans dig the kid.

I can only imagine how could Harper would have been with another year in a college system and if he got over his fear of defenders and used his 240 lb frame for some power running rather than thinking he was a big C.J. dancing around outside the tackles.

By this measure Rod McDowell will get drafted, have a couple big games and get stuck with a "stubborn" coach who is afraid to play the speed guy over the power back. It is happening to CJ Spiller and has happened off and on with Ellington at times. I understand neither of them can get the ball 30-40 times or they won't make it 10 games, much less 16, but with Spiller and Ellington's speed and and home run ability a coach is stupid not to get the ball in their hands in the open field.
I'm just messing around, but I love seeing Andre succeed in Arizona. I know when he was drafted I thought "he may never play behind those other guys," but he is like a Darren Sproles-type, great speed with great hands and a nose for the first down marker. We all saw it at Clemson, when he stayed healthy he was a pretty tough runner for someone his size and with Palmer I would expect his next two seasons to get even better.
