One of my Bride's cats died today. I pretend not to like her cats, but I do.
I liked that one a lot as he also liked me.
Tears came as I dug the grave.
Being able to post this here with friends means a lot -- "Thanks" .

Had my beef with cats and now it’s played out. You can’t control them, you can’t possess their souls, but you can make a cat pur for your affection. That’s when you know you’re truly appreciated by an animal. No other animal has that satisfying pur. But dogs… they are the best! No argument.

I liked one cat in my life. She showed up one day and I forbade the children from feeding her. She hanged around a few days and delivered a chewed up squirrel to my front steps.
She impressed me enough to not kill her due to her never once putting a paw on the paint of my car. When I raised the hood, MB hoods go straight up rather than covering the engine bay, that old mama cat would jump up inside the engine bay, sit in the clearing between the engine firewall and the cabin firewall and watch me work.
She'd get down when it became evident I was finished work. We had an understanding, you don't touch me and I won't touch you which is the only kind of cat I won't get rid of.
