Can't see the the deep safety so I'm assuming

the deep shot at the top of the screen is not open.

The said, just whistle it past the refs ear to the sticks. The middle of the field is wide open there. Even if that ends up picking up 11 or 12 yards, it still leaves you in a good position to go for it.

God o Mighty - Cade WAS NOT trying to “throw the ball into triple coverage”. He was trying to throw it OB to avoid the sack. But, falling back on his heals, he couldn’t get anything on the throw. Cade called it the worst interception that he ever threw in his life. but he was not trying to throw it into triple coverage.

It appears 2me there were, at least, 3 open receivers.
BUT the bigger question is or was: We were playing CSU, so why was our QB under pressure on 3rd down?

(Maybe the RB needs to block... Maybe our improved OL needs to learn to block...)

Asking for a friend.

So instead of throwing to the open receiver, Cade tried to force the ball into triple coverage. Yep. Saw it.

It's boneheaded plays like this that make me wonder if Cade's a headcase. Deshaun used to do things like this occasionally because he was supremely confident in his ability to thread the needle, but the one thing about him was, he never did it twice. He learned and moved on. Cade, not so much it would seem. This isn't the first time we've seen this kind of stuff from Cade.

Riley's offense is clearly a massive upgrade. The issue is silly mistakes/miscues. Fix those, and we have a significantly higher ceiling than the last two years.

Screw Calford.

I remember when the stadium booed DW for theowing interceptions. Cade is young and makes mistakes everyone needs to give him a little time. Fans seem to only remember Trevor. I can say I have only seen one Trevor in my lifetime that I can remember. We were extremely lucky we got him.

Look who's wide open.***

That's just one of several examples...

Sep 12, 2023, 10:24 AM

over the last two weeks where Cade didn't get the ball to wide open receivers.

This one is just more glaring because not only did he not get the ball to one of four wide open receivers, that mistake was compounded by a second bad decision that resulted in a pick six.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I just rewatched the play on YTTV and i really don't

understand what happened.

Cade looks up top first. The deep safety is actually just out of frame but has that deep shot well covered. Nothing up top is open. Cade comes off that and looks straight at Stellato in the middle of the field. He's wide open with nobody within 7-8 yards of him and Cade's eyes are directly on him. The ball has to be out right then. Cade hesitates and then he has a DE in his face because Tristan Leigh got clowned on a spin move and ends up on his butt. Still, he had 4-5 seconds before the pressure got to him and his 2nd read was wide open. Despite Leigh getting clowned, 4-5 seconds should be plenty of time to get that play off. You can't ask for the OL to give much more time than that. It won't be there against better DLs. I don't know if he somehow just couldn't see Stellato or what, but that one is puzzling.

And then everything that happened after that was completely ridiculous. Both check downs were wide open. He probably could've gotten the ball complete to either of them even while backpedaling, and if the balls just ends up in the dirt and their feet its still fine. Even short of all that, just take the sack and we are punting from midfield with a chance to pin them deep.

There are just so many mistakes on that one play. I hope they can coach him up, because there were certainly plenty of teaching moments in that first half.

Re: I just rewatched the play on YTTV and i really don't

I thought that Tristan Leigh was beaten on that play because the DE put his hand directly on Tristan’s face mask and bent his head backwards, causing Tristan to lose balance and then the spin move got the DE around an off-balance Tristan. I thought it was obvious,….and uncalled. That’s “illegal use of hands”.

So instead of a penalty, we get a pick 6. Blown calls change games.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Checked again and definitely do not see that.

DE went inside and put one hand on the shoulder and the other below Leigh's arm and beats Leigh quickly to the inside. There's some grabbing, mainly by Leigh as he tries to recover. The DE then spins the other way and allows Leigh's momentum to take himself to the ground.

IMO he just flat out got beat. I never saw the DEs hand get above Leigh's shoulder pad.

I don’t think so. I rewatched this again after reading this and I didn’t see any meaningful hands to the face. Saw Leigh lose his balance and fall backward when the DE spun.

Regardless, I’m with the posters above who are confused, as am I, what Cade was seeing or waiting for. Get rid of the ball early, to open targets. Don’t even put yourself in position to have to try and throw back across the field to the sidelines. Irony is he did that a lot on that drive leading up to that terrible pick 6 play.

When I was watching that play live, I couldn't believe he threw it where he did. I saw Briningstool was open, but now looking at that shot, he had an option for the 1st down. It's plays like this that have me concerned about the rest of this season. I understand he is young, but this was against CSU. A Pick 6 against FSU, ND, Syracuse, UNC, NC State, Miami, or even SC is going to be much more costly.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Cade was trying to throw it OB

Sep 12, 2023, 11:03 AM

Some numbskull posted in the comments below that Cade was trying to “throw the ball into triple coverage”. SO STUPID. He was trying to throw it OB to avoid the sack (as he said in his interview). But, falling back on his heals, he couldn’t get anything on the throw.
Cade called it the worst interception that he ever threw in his life. but he was not trying to throw it into triple coverage.

Re: Cade was trying to throw it OB

So a doubly #### poor decision because it would have been fourth down anyway?

It's not the only time in that one game he tried to throw the ball out of bounds and basically put up a grab ball.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Cade needs to prove himself at this point

Sep 12, 2023, 11:24 AM

He may have the talent, but he needs to show it.

I just stood there in disbelief after it happened for a solid minute. Honestly one of the lowest moments Ive been at watching a Clemson game just standing there in shock felt weird rest of the game was fine but I thought it was over the whole dab experiment was done in that moment. Glad that second half changed my mind

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was the single wrst play I've ever seen from a Clemson QB

Sep 12, 2023, 12:54 PM

going back to the 80's. That includes Willie Simmons, Tajh Boyd's gaffes against the coots.... everything Kyle Parker did with a broken back.... Patrick Sapp, Nealon Greene, Streeter, Dantzler, Whitehurst, Cullen, that other white guy after Whitehurst, Willi Korn, Billy Luckie, you name it.

It was the worst play ever when you factor in MULTIPLE receivers were WIDE open and how obviously bad the throw was following his refusal to throw it to open receivers.
