Good for Chad.

Has he been interviewing for any and all open jobs since being hired by SMU? Because that’s what he did virtually every offseason at Clemson, and it was a huge distraction.

I only remember him interviewing for Texas Tech and SMU while he was here. We won both of the games following the interviews so I doubt it was that big of a distraction.

distraction? really? obviously chad wasn't the only reason we got better, but he was certainly a part of our rise. in the 4 years chad was here, we went 42-11, with 2 #1 and 2 #2 finishes in the ACC. in the 4 years before he came, we were 23-22, with a 1,2,3 and 4 ACC finish. in the 3 years since he's been gone, we're (at this point) 38-3, 3 ACC champs, a natty, a natty runner up, and a chance this year. chad helped us get better. maybe his interviews distracted the fans, but not sure it distracted the team.

Agreed. I've never understood all the people who were upset over Chad Morris wanting to be a head coach. I remember people getting mad at him for his name being listed as a candidate for jobs even if there was no confirmation he had even talked to anyone. Remember, we may not have gotten Watson without him.

I never commented as to his coaching ability or the role he played in our improvement.
I actually think he is a very good coach, and he did some great things for our program. I think most any program would be fortunate to have him. However, his play calling became very predictable and I do feel that it hurt us in some big games (losses to FSU and South Carolina, among others). In addition, his desire to be a head coach was not a secret and it seemed at times that his desire to leave Clemson and become a head coach was more important than his job as our offensive coordinator.
I could obviously be wrong, but that is how it felt to me and I’m not the only one who thought that. He did a lot for us, but I felt when he left that it was not only in his best interest but in ours as well.

I think that would be a good move for Tennessee. Morris has done a really good job with SMU, and I can never understand why most of the SEC schools keep hiring defensive coordinators in today's game. Not that a defensive coordinator can't be successful, but with today's game, and with the play in the SEC I just can't understand why none of them don't decide to break from the norm, and open up the offense.

They hire the wrong D coordinators. Hire one that has kept a consistent top 10 D, and you have a winner bc nothing has changed, defenses win games!!!

I more meant the mindset of so many of the SEC programs. Alabama has won because of elite coaching combined with elite talent, but even their lack of imagination on the offensive side of the ball has at least given some opponents a chance. The spred offense is probably the only weakness Saban has, and yet most SEC teams continue to rely on building defensive minded teams with a run first power offense which plays right into the hands of what Alabama is doing. Florida finally moved in the right direction with their current hire. I'm not saying you can't still have that by hiring a defensive minded coach as long as he hires the right OC and turns him loose. It's just that's not usually what we see out of the SEC programs.

Head to head recruiting. Chad could turn into public enemy #1 for us Tigers.

He became a public enemy when he left Clemson. You are either with us or against us, it can't be no other way!!!

They'd be wise to hire him if he actually wants the job. Don't think they're likely to find anyone better at this point.

I think they’re too stupid to hire Morris... since they were so stupid to really think gundy was gonna accept.
Am a little surprised that neither tamu or miss st didn’t go after the chad- both needing texas talent.

Pondering...

Wonder if he will get offered 42 mil for 6 years? That’s what The Mullet turned down. I think Schiano had 32 mil 6 years ripped out from under him... if I could land anywhere in a spectrum of 32-42 million dollars I’d do it! Worst case, after Tennessee let’s him go he floats for a few years and lands back on the NCAA scene as an O Coordinator again...
