football is one thing there really isnt much parity between the top 5 elite teams and the rest..but basketball seems to have it..with the right coach there is no reason we shouldnt at least make the tourney every year..oliver did it in his final three seasons

Villanova is kinda our kindered spirit/twin with football/basketball...

First, pre-1980s and the college sport expansion, they were a solid program. Consistently very good but not the elite blue-blood. Then in the early 80s, they catch that magical season. They follow that wih some decent but mostly unproductive few decades and under perform. From 1985-2014, only one conference champ. Then in the 2010s they find the right mechanisms, hire a young coach 40 at the time (although Wright was a HC at hofstra), and gave him a long-time to actually build the program. Wright won the Big East in 2005 but then kinda could not get over the hump for a bit (mostly UCONN) but stuggled to place higher than 6th most year in conference. Basically he was the "best" of the unranked" BigEast teams. Still they kept with him and became a dynasty program.

Oh and in Wrights first 12 seasons he finished:

5th
3rd
11th
3rd
1st
7th
8th
4th
2nd
9th
13th
7th

and then
1sr or 2nd for the next 9 years in the Big East
