Serious question - What is a woman?

Seems appropriate for The Lunge. The answer is clear in my mind - a woman is an adult biological female. It's that simple, with no confusion or gray areas. Nothing else is a woman. How they "feel" does not change that fact.
Having said that, I have no hatred or fear of anyone who is confused or conflicted about that in their own identity, and in fact I have a great deal of compassion for people in that situation. I have no problem using whatever pronoun they prefer when addressing them or referring to them. However, I do so knowing that I am engaging in a delusion out of respect and compassion. Furthermore, in any situation where facts are important, I can't say that anything other than an adult biological female is a "woman".
Thoughts? What is a woman?

roles are dictated by nature. Now, that's not to say they must remain static in a modern society, but that still doesn't mean you can become a woman just because you want to.
Switch off all of our modern conveniences....grocery stores, running water, law enforcement protection, etc. and you'd see gender roles reverse back to what they have traditionally been over night. Not because of any societal conditioning, it's because that's what would be necessary for survival.

sure, to an extent. Men are going to be the hunters, women are going to raise the kids due to biological advantages...in a primitive civilization.. But tese roles are less and less necessary. I am not saying everyone should cut their Weiner off, but I know my sister wears the pants and makes all the money, while my brother and law stayed at home, cooked all the meals, and was a house dad. Oddly, he was the captain of the football team. I am just talking about gender roles here.

Men and women react to things differently. They score differently on aptitude tests. They score differently on psych. Given free choices, they choose different courses of study and fields of endeavor.
It is true that men and women are more alike than different. If one randomly selects an individual male or female, they will test very close to the median on all those tests. But among many selections, there will be a lean in one direction. And when you get to the edges of those bell curves, they start to become almost all male or female. So, broadly speaking, men and women do different things.
To say it is "human construct" is a chosen ideology, one not supported by any science/testing. But that is what the left is, isn't it? Chosen ideology defined as truth?

The medical community and scientists draw a difference between gender and sex. But I think that's the issue; y'all are just bickering semantics.
Some societies throughout history have recognized multiple genders long before we arrived here to this swimming controversy.
Really, we need to just be having a debate about sex on this topic and leave out gender roles since that's what it boils down to: the physical differences between men and women in athletic competition.

Anyway, when discussing this, aren't we talking about "gender identity" anyway? That implies that no, you can't change your gender, you're just identifying with a particular one.
Didn't the AMA also say sex should be removed from birth certificates too? How ridiculous is that? "We found this skeleton from 300 years ago, unfortunately we cannot identify the sex/gender/whatever despite the broad shoulders and bone size because we can't talk to them". Totally scientific and reasonable.

Simply to remove it from the birth certificate to avoid discrimination for those who identify with another gender; they still recognize the difference between sex and gender. The AMA has little to do with medical science. It is just a political action group that represents a small minority of practicing physicians. When one excludes residents and student members of the AMA, the true percentage of practicing physicians who belong to the AMA is just over 12%.
The AMA is a self serving racket interested in lining the pockets of its executives. It has done a very poor job of advocating for physicians and does next to nothing related to medical science.
It is just another bloated political relic which has totally outlived its usefulness.
I wouldn't put any stock in any position the AMA advocates for. The AMA knows who butters its bread. It receives twice as much money from the U.S. government as it does from membership dues. No conflict of interest there at all.

Are we just defined by whatever our biology is? Is the nature of a man or woman just their measurements or athletic ability? Where do the mind and sense of self fit into your definition? Or are we more complicated than that? How do you explain Klinefelter syndrome? The fact that those with a biological truth of being 'XXY' would certainly seem to support that "gender" which is a much looser construct would then be thought a changing spectrum over time. And then within gender, the roles themselves are even looser. Just look at fashion and how things have changed for each gender over time.
I think your question is considerably more complicated than you think, but may not wish to admit. There is certainly an agenda I've seen by some (not you) that put forth the simplest explanation in order to cast doubt but if you think on it more than surface-level you can clearly see how complicated an issue it actually is.

You know, I've seen it said here that gender dysphoria has been around for ages, and I call BS on that. Sure, there are guys who'll dress up as chicks hoping for a meatstick pounding of their puckered brown bullseye, and there's chicks who'll get buzzcuts and neck tattoos, longing for a taste of fish tacos, but if they can look at themselves in a mirror and truly believe they aren't what they are, they're freakin' batsh#t delusional. And if you're willing to accept the absurd proposition that there is, then why not 'inter- species' as well? The reason I wanted you to google intersex is that it's a very real thing that exists in human biology. This 'gender isn't sex ... women aren't female (or is it that females are not necessarily female) is complete nonsense. The objective truth is simple: Those with XY chromosome are ALWAYS a male / man; those with XX chromosome are ALWAYS a female / woman).
Psychologists & psychiatrists argue otherwise? Any 'argument' can be made 'true' by changing the definitions so that the conclusion is certain to meet the desired outcome of the logistician. Psychologists repeat the 'gender isn't same as sex' in part because of self-interest. Ever think about a large subset of the the people that go to psychologists and psychiatrists? (Hint: This is a rhetorical question.) The shrinks who promote that garbage are simply opportunistic frauds.
As society wanders down the path of changing objective truths, we see the next absurdity racing to 'normality' ... the pressure on kids to 'choose' their 'gender assignment' by wicked or mentally ill adults. Arguably, most kids are a bit more comfortable with their own gender (boys play predominantly with boys, girls play predominantly with girls) ... as long as there are plenty of kids around. But when the hormones hit, most teenage boys 'get it' as far as their obsession with all 'good looking' women ... same with girls who feel that way about the 'good looking' boys.
Just because there is a minority of boys and girls who find themselves sexually attracted to their own gender when they become adolescents doesn't mean that adults should attempt to "assign" children as being homosexual simply because ... at that child stage of development ... those kids prefer keeping company with their own gender when they are still little kids.
The large majority of homosexuals with whom I am either friends or have business relationships are proud of their gender/sex ... they are also proud of their partners or spouses. These are well-balanced gay couples. (And yes, I know a bunch of gay couples very well.)
True help is needed for those who are unhappy with their gender. Enabling those unhappy people by telling them that they can be any gender / sex that they want is simply lying to them. Disgraceful. We need to expect that the 'shrink community' learn to do their jobs instead of exploiting the unhappy elements of society.

I agree with most of what you said. However, there is a rare condition known as testicular feminization syndrome in which while the individual is genetically male(XY), phenotypically or in appearance, they are female. They typically have well developed breasts, minimal body hair as compared to other XY individuals and possess a ######.
However, they have testicles that are undescended and the condition is usually discovered in puberty when they fail to menstruate as they have no uterus. The testicles are removed to prevent cancer.
So ALWAYS while very close is not actually always.
I agree we have entered a period of insanity. If we take this to its logical conclusion, if we are unable to define what a woman is, how does Biden actually know he nominated one for SCOTUS. Furthermore if gender is fluid, has the term completely become irrelevant.
We are living in some fat times if our society is obsessed with fixing an issue which isn't broken.
