Gaining respect for DJU

Nov 17, 2021, 7:59 AM

Guy has absolutely sucked *** all year after such high expectations. Now has a bum knee and getting pulled for Puma and all fans hate him. Yet he still is going out there grinding. Have to respect him for that and get behind that kind of attitude IMO.

DJ isn't going to transfer. We all saw w what he was capable of last year when healthy, had somewhat decent blocking and receivers that could actually catch the ball. This season his has no receivers that are consistent, for some reason his mechanics(throwing off backfoot) are off and we don't seem to have a coach that recognizes this(looking at you Tony, Brandon and PJ) and the O-Line is as offensive as an unchanged 3 day old diaper!

Could DJ be better yes, is it all on him, hell no! Are all of our problems caused by players not performing to their capabilities? Again no, but we have had the perfect storm of coaches depending on what has worked in the past and have therefore stagnated, they have no ingenuity, no plan or ability to adapt and halftime adjustments mean are we gonna have ham on rye or bologna on wheat. The saving grace this season is that no matter what happens on Saturday the defense is gonna play their hearts out and give us a chance regardless what the other side of the ball does!

ISpeakTheTruth,

Articulating the 'truth' takes hard work and mental clarity.

Good job in doing this re: DJ and his performance this year.

Thank you!
I see out problem as really starting 2.5 years ago, strangely about the same time as Jeff Scott left. Our O-Line has been a weak spot, sore spot, what ever you want to call it forever it seems and the only common denominator is Coach Caldwell and our offensive scheme. I think ot is time to change both! I believe Coach Caldwell might retire this January and I hope Dabo goes outside and hires a new O-Line coach, get one of the O-line asst's from the NFL!

Did you watch the games?

If CK comes in and looks decent, how could you start DJ over him?

DJ's mechanical issues are not new issues.

They are magnified when he is indecisive and/or lacking confidence in the throw he is about to make.

As someone who has worked with tons of athletes, you can coach them to do all kinds of things the right way but it's really hard for changes to sink in if they are not playing free and on instincts.

When athletes start to think it blocks their movements to some extent and you will see old habits start to creep back into their movements.

This has clearly happened with DJ this year.

I believe that is the reason they have talked about "taking things off of his plate" and "simplifying the offense" because they are trying to get him to move and act without thinking.

Unfortunately as a QB who has to read coverages and blitzes while also helping young players around him, it's almost impossible to get through a game without your brain taking over.

You must be blind...DJ is worthless as a QB...strong inaccurate arm, no touch, slow feet and concrete shoes, stares at his receivers, has no idea about RPO but other than those little things he's great at something...the reason Clemson is not ranked is no QB period...TAMU & others can get ranked and we still sit on the sidelines with the same record...no 'O' baby! We have the best group of tight ends in College Football and he can only find them once in a while! Five stars from California is equal to 2 Stars down south...one of the worst D1 QB's I've ever seen...Dabo and company got snookered on that one!

No one hates DJ as he seems like a fine young man. He has sucked on the field but not our only problem. Not sure why people like you cant seem to understand?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't hate him. And know no one that does.....

Nov 17, 2021, 9:00 AM

The beloved Tigers have had a tough year. It is not one person or one event.

But never should the fine young men that represent this great University be dragged through the mud.

If you must be critical go after the adults getting paid handsomely but leave the kids alone. And that is what they are, kids. We oft times forget it is an 18 yo or 20 yo taking criticism from old men that could not make a 3A high school team.

So leave DJ and all the rest of the kids alone.

in fairness, DJ is getting paid handsomely. Part of the criticism comes from the gradual erosion of the amateurism in college football. For years there's been that sense that these kids often aren't really here for an education paid for by competition on the field, but are field competitors getting compensated through a pretense that they are amateur scholars. Now, the biggest names have money-making contracts, and they're taking the same type of heat that a professional athlete having a bad performance would.

Well said...I hadn't stated this way, but, yes, I agree***

Rationalizing your decision to spew hate because a player signed an NIL deal is one of the worst things I can imagine a fan of a team doing.

Nobody is going to convince you to stop saying horrible things about the young men on your preferred team, but don't pretend like you are making an acceptable decision or that you have a good reason to do it.

You do it because you aren't a good person inside.

That's the same reason people do it to professional athletes when they perform poorly.

The compensation doesn't make it ok to be a bad person.

First off, to set the record straight ,hate is a word no body should use in talking about a person. You may have hate for the way things are going or you hate that your golf game has gone to #E!! but you shouldn't hate anybody; well maybe the coot football culture is something you can hate, but don't hate the players, or even the coach .But enough of my pulpit chat.
Thing is DJU has sucked. But so has the play of the "O" line, the wide receivers, and something not mentioned, the play calling and the man calling those plays, certainly haven't lived up to expectations.
Thing is, as Dabo has put it, "We are who we are right now" and the team ,and fan base have to deal with ,plain and simple.
We have a game Saturday that is as close to a "must win game" if there ever has been.
Clemson still has an outside shot, I think ,of winning the division, and playing for the ACC Championship. But lose Saturday, and the only goal left for the season is to beat the coots on Nov.27th.
Lose that game, and I hate to think of what we will have to hear from the coots for the next 364 days.
But back too your original text. I do respect the effort ,but hate the results.
