Frustrating response from Dabo
Nov 6, 2022, 8:07 PM
|
|
“We needed to win the turnover margin and stop the run. It's just that simple. They only had nine completions but they were the more physical team. The critical play was the blocked punt.”
Why is he so reluctant to take on the elephant in the room? 28-0 in the 4th quarter is unacceptable. The critical issue is the Zero points! We can’t predictably move the ball… period. Our offense put up a net zero points yesterday as they scored 14 points and also gave up 14 points… net Zero. It is IMPOSSIBLE to win any football game with these stats. I’m not saying defense or special teams was awesome and beyond criticism, but the biggest issue isn’t even being acknowledged. Offense is inept and Dabo is much more involved with that side of the ball. Coaching, scheme, play calling, personnel… all need overhauls. Address it please.
Don’t complain about the criticism- just clearly acknowledge you understand the real problem.

This maybe a tough lesson for some coordinators. Our offense is only as good as the players he put in the field, but there is work to be done by the coaches/recruiters as well as schematics.

public acknowledgement of poor play or effort by their part.
He doesn't even have to name players, just say "the offense".
Or, is it the fact he knows it's play calling. And, if he acknowledges it, the players will lose any confidence they already have???

Unlike BB. He knows all the problems and will fix them after year 20 of not making it to the NCAA. Oh wait! I forgot he is underpaid with bad facilities.

We simply got beat by the better team last might and if you have watched us all year, it was not surprising since ND was the best team we have played. As Dabo said last year, we got who we got. Our recruiting has got to get some speed on both sides of the ball and get it this year.

There is plenty to be disgruntled about but few things say “I don’t really know much about college football” than trying to play the transitive property game.

Our offense needs a complete overhaul.
Nov 6, 2022, 8:17 PM
|

That's something that certainly won't happen now, during the season, so that's one reason it won't be addressed anytime soon. Dabo may not agree with that, so it may never be addressed at all. I agree, it is the elephant in the room, he's just limited as far as solutions go for the time being, so he'll likely only talk about things that can be done now. I know that DJ is struggling, but I'm not convinced, at this point, that Klubnick is any better, and in fact, he may be worse. So that's tough to publicly address as well.
Ultimately, this all goes back to Dabo, and while he's not offering a lot of public solutions, at least he is owning it and not deflecting.

A good coach will never go into a press conference and throw his players and coaches under the bus. Now in the film room it probably got hot.We have wide receivers who can't get separation and don't fight for the ball. I don't know why. We have a line who can't run block especially in the middle.Obviously o-line is the hardest to evaluate out of HS. Is it strength? Tecnique? I don't know or I'd be making big bucks somewhere. We have 3 five star qbs. what happened? stars don't always translate

The common denominator here is coaching.
We’ve had more elite talent the last few years not develop as we anticipated, than who have developed as anticipated. That’s a concerning trend.

I know it’s more soothing to imagine that Cade is the next Trevor or Deshaun, and that he’s just patiently waiting for his turn, but the signs point to that not being the case.

What signs exactly Judge? The fact that he threw an INT on a pass play that never should have been called on his 2 snaps of the game? The fact that he came in and managed us to a win in a game that DJ almost single-handedly gave away? The other 20 snaps he’s gotten all year in garbage time? What signs are so obvious?

if he were able to make significant contributions this year. That’s especially true since DJ has struggled at times and our offense has become a weakness.
Second, Cade just hasn’t shown many flashes of brilliance when he has played. He’s been okay, but nothing that screams next generational QB at Clemson.
If anyone here is suggesting that our coaches have an elite college QB on their hands, and aren’t playing him, then we have even bigger problems than I thought (and I think we have significant ones already).

Here's the thing about Klubnik--you can't expect him to go in only when the team is in dire straits and rescue the game. He has little to no experience/playing time. Throwing him to the wolves like that is bad strategy and bad for his psyche.

not basing it on any of that. I base it on the fact that none of us know. I don't, you don't, and nobody els on here knows. And just because DJ is struggling, or even if he flat out sucks, it doesn't automatically follow that Klubnick must be better. He may be better, but he may not. Dabo has won 2 national championships. He built the program that did that; he's no idiot. I have to think there is a reason Klubnick has not been playing more, and I don't believe it's out of some blind loyalty to DJ.

It's as loved and supported a program as one will find anywhere, and he's as loved and supported a coach as there is. 125 coaches out of 131 would trade with him right now. Unless some of those million-dollar-a-month checks are bouncing, some positivity seems to be seeping through.

I’ll just say it. Dabo has gotten to the place now where he doesn’t like criticism or being questioned. For better or worse, he’s the most influential person at Clemson, got more sway than the president, AD, the BOT, the mayor, whoever. And he knows it. He is loyal to a fault and will not be made to make any decisions concerning “his” program. He built it and will continue doing things his way.

Defense has been soft all year, and not just players...Goodwin too. The fact we didn't stack the box and force the throw and bring non stop pressure is beyond me. This defense use to live in the backfield and had no problem at the point of the attack. The hunger and attack mode has totally left this defense. It's more of a "keep everything in front of me" style, just stand there and wait for them to come to me instead of attacking them.

But I do agree the offense is the real problem, they give up so many free points and alot of times teams will get 14-21 pts without getting 40 yards of offense. Blocked punt, Pick 6, another pick in our own redzone. The defense can be better, but it def starts with the offense.
