I’d love for him to still be alive today and hear his thoughts on nil and the current day state of college football.

I have do doubt that he’d provide numerous viral sound clips, and he’d have some dry humorous one liners to go along with it.

Coach Howard was asked while he was AD and Lake Hartwell was full, would Clemson start a mens womens rowing team. His reply was "We ain't spending one penny on a sport where you sit on your a$$ and go backwards" Next question

Something along the lines of what I heard an FSU coach (DL) say a few days ago in a presser. He was asked about how the new guys (freshmen) were looking in practice. (He had just talked about several of the veterans, including portal guys.

"You're asking me to talk about freshmen? I don't do that. They ain't done nothin' yet. I'm not gonna say anything positive about them in public until they earn it."

Sounds like something Howard would say.

I think he would say something like,”dey outta be able to pay dem boys to play, dey neva paid de coach anything.” Then he would tell the story about Dr. Edwards told him one time that he had gotten the coach a $5000 per year raise but asked him to keep it a secret. Coach told him he wasn’t going to tell anyone because he was as ashamed of it as Dr. Edwards was.
