Who leads? Should be us but from what I've seen, it could be the British. I like Cameron.....he really gets it. There must be a serious coordinated response.

U.S., U.K. and France are spending more effort propping up anti-Assad rebels... many of which are on decent terms with ISIS.
It's an insane situation.
With Russia now taking the gloves off ISIS and Al Nusra have been routed in many areas.

Middle eastern countries have always fought wars and battles. The most hostile area on the planet. Now bring their own hostilities to others. What a shame.

And Europe had nothing to do with the creation of the modern state of Israel. And the Sikes-Picot Agreement... that was all the Middle East's fault. Europe never had any wars. Oh except these...

At this point, yeah. You can't blame Israelis for wrongs

that were done a hundred years ago. The Balfour Declaration and the Sykes Picot agreement were awful, but they are done. But we can't ignore them when assessing the current situation.
I support Israel defending itself. I do not support the US turning a blind eye to illegal settlements that are still being made.
People are always going to be hypocrites, and people are always going to be historically ignorant. And that is what we are seeing with the common attitude of Americans about Islam ad the Middle East in general. Anyone who uses the tired cliche "That place has always been violent" as if other places have not have just as much violence, has no idea what they are talking about.

As so often happens with "the Global Community."
We continue to play by the rules of the Geneva convention, while the terrorists laugh at us and do things their own way.
Truman was right... the place for Diplomacy is AFTER UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER.
When will we get past the point of "we need to sit down with them and understand what their grievances are." We know what they are... they want to kill us!

Death toll up to 60
Nov 13, 2015, 6:06 PM
|

Many hostages being held. It isn't clear at this point who is responsible. Many will say ISIS but....these days, anyone that does something stupid are instantly labeled Isis.
I think it's about time that the western countries take a step back and examines it's role in the middle east over the last 40 years. A huge segment of the population there hates us, the british, french, etc.. I think we need to ask ourselves why? And it absolutely isn't true that they "hate us because of our freedom", like the politicians say.
Why is it that the United States feels like it has a right to interject itself into any area of the world it chooses. Isn't that called Imperialism? Why do we have military bases in 110 countries?
I love America. But what exactly is it we're trying to accomplish and are we willing to send our young people to their deaths (Iraq) to achieve it.
I think it's time for a little soul searching.

The issue in the Middle East however is not the West, it is Islam. Plain and simple. Islam is a warrior religion that is unique in all the world, and those true pratictioners of it will be at war with the West no matter where we are in the World or what we do in the Middle East.

Ignorance like this keeps the problem going.

We can't ever eradicate the problem because we are too lazy to sit down and figure out what the problem is. Stupid or lazy people want to blame it on a major world religion. Of course it isn't that simple. Muslims are doing more to kill ISIS than we are. Muslims are dying at the hands of Extremists 10-1 over anyone else.
The problem are specific groups (who identify as Muslim) which operate in environments CREATED by the West. The West will fall if it can't figure this out.

all the time in our early wars. There have always been pirates. Ever heard of Vikings? Ever heard of privateers?
And they barbary pirates didn't decapitate people for religious reasons. They held people hostage for money. They were obviously economically motivated, like any other pirates.

Soul searching? I think it's time to finish the deal

Regardless of how or why it's gotten to where it is...the true savages & evil have shown it's face, and it's time to stop it, not bow to it and passively let it overtake the world. It follows when you walk away & won't just stay where it's at or keep to itself. We're past that now. Hindsight is 20/20, but the future is obvious if something isn't done soon. The point of no return seems closer than everyone wants to believe. Optimal would be a "live and let live" mentality, but that's not reality and a naive way to think. Things have gotten to the point that if you don't take the fight to the bad guys, they'll bring it to you.

You realize people are p###ed off because the U.S. Isn't doing enough right? People are going to complain regardless. Am I saying we should go all out on ISIS? Helll no. The situation is far more complicated than most make it out to be and one country going to war with them won't solve anything. To touch on your Middle East hates America, Britain amd French point, the Middle East are the ones begging for help. I feel like you're equating ISIS to the war in Iraq and they are absolutely nowhere near the same. ISIS is not something that can just he ignored while we "step back" or do our "soul searching". The more I think about what you've said the dumber I feel for responding because it truly appears you have no idea what you're talking about. It's going to take a combined effort to eliminate ISIS. This isn't an ___insert_country_here__ vs ISIS ordeal, it's everyone vs ISIS. The war in Iraq is completely and utterly irrelevant.

The saddest part of all this. You remove terrible men from power to help the citizens. At least when they were in power they frightened everyone, so no one would dare challenge or get out of line. Now that their gone all hell breaks loose, no one to stop it. Is it sad or true to say if Saddam and ghadafi were still in power there would be nothing of this magnitude.

have used chemical weapons against the rebels. Obama said, if proved, we would take military action.. then Fat Mouth Kerry said that it could be avoided if Russian authorities could work with US, which seemed like a long shot, but they did.
The result? The world knew if the US would not take action for proven chemical weapon use, they wouldn't take action for anything.
All the rebels who were anticipating our help then were jaded, and turned to the support that was there; Isis.
Shortly after Russia invaded Crimea, thus proving the theory the US was weak and would not respond.
I'm an optimist, but things aren't going down a good path. Regardless of your last pres vote, there is no denying the weakness and poor decision in foriegn policy of this administration.

chemical weapons. A lot of signs point to the U.S. doing some weird #### in Syria over the last 5-10 years. One of which would be stacking the deck against Assad in that investigation. Some seriously questionable elements of that investigation.

We are a soft target too because of both political parties playing politics with our borders. The FBI has over 1000 probes into ISIS already in this country. Just a matter of time till it happens here.
Think about it. Movie theater, restaurant, concert or ballgame. Too many sympathizers in charge of our our military and immigration enforcement.

Im sure this will be an unpopular with some of the apologists but... The Middle East as a whole is one giant crap hole. The people there are raised to have a completely different morality that we are taught and deceit and clan/tribal roots run deep. Anyone that has much boots on the ground time there, and met them, knows them for what they are, combatants or future combatants. I will just say now that I understand how my father felt about Vietnam, and my grandfather Japan, except the problem is 100 X as bad. These people are everywhere, and when a homegrown terrorist shot up a place I used to work, killing good men I knew. (Chattanooga) where my wife would come visit me for lunch, a River park where children played. This is the world we are in.
I have watched us hand back everything we took at great and yes, the ultimate expense. I can only hope that at least the majority of people remember these things come election time, but I doubt it. Sad day today, worse to come I fear.
