For those wishing for the old 4 team system.

It would have been

Oregon, UGA, Penn State, Texas.

The conference championships would have been totally meaningless, except for seedings. It would have been the same as last year. B1G vs SEC and everyone esle stay home.

Sankey, Petitti, ESPN and Fox are working diligently to return to that system (B1G vs SEC) except they want more than 4 schools from each conference.

Go to a 16 team playoff. Top 4 from each conference based on CFP committee. All teams go into a tumbler and randomly picked and placed into a bracket. Higher ranked team gets home field advantage through first 2 rounds then we go to regular bowls .

The way it looks to me as of now is the 12 team playoff has been successful and the only change will be the bye week given to conference champs possibly. To me this is where a commissioner settles the political side of it(SECB1G) and we just play football.

When we go to a 16 team playoff it will be..

....8 from the SEC and 8 from the B1G. That is why FSU and Clemson are fioghting so hard to get into one of those two conferences.

Not sure about that. I noticed that the Rose Bowl had a traditional B1G-Pac10 matchup, the Sugar had an SEC team and Saturday Texas will be in the Cotton Bowl. I think all involved are gonna get hurt patting themselves on the back. Notre Dame wins the NC and the networks will absolutely pass out with excitement.

No Boise's or Clemson's to spoil the party. Count how many times you hear "we finally got this where it should be" when all is said and done.

If it was only four, they probably would have swapped out PSU for ND.

The twelve team playoff is like the Andy Griffith Show in color.

Some will tout it as progress, say it's inevitable, point to some irrelevant improvements, etc., but it's really not. It's only about the DOLLAS.

by the time they got to color Barney had left. After that the show was never as good. Its like our football without BV as the DC. Just not as good.

Subtracting Barney Fife and adding Howard Sprague will kill any version of college football. I see losing Barney as the NIL and unrestricted transfer portal as Howard Sprague. Either one by itself is really bad but the combination will eventually kill the show/sport.

Ding, ding, ding! Truth!

2 biggest conferences will continue to manipulate this deal however they have to in order to get more of their teams in. Just the way things currently are and will be until competitive equity changes are made.

Right now you can go ahead and chalk Michigan, OSU and Oregon as being mainstays at the top of this deal with the monies these 3 programs are investing in players. Other very good teams out there no doubt but they are not investing these kind of dollars.

Because of auto bids,, the playoff will expand and sooner rather than later.

Based on the precedent set last year….
Oregon, Penn State, Texas, Ohio State..

Teams who lose their starting QB don’t belong..
UGA proved it makes sense…

Auto bids are not set in stone …I could see those going away…
