For those of you that had opinions on Arch Manning

2

Sep 4, 2023, 8:35 AM

He's currently buried at #3 on Texas' depth chart. Texas blew out Rice yesterday, and Arch didn't play at all. Texas played their #1 and #2 QBs.

Take that information how you want.

Hey I’m happy for the young man if Texas was where he wanted to be. Could be a future portal entry to go somewhere where he can start day 1.

They have highly rated qbs. Not surprised. Makes sense. They should redshirt him and let him play in 4 games

Very odd these days to see a 5 star go to a school and sit the bench. He must really love Texas and Coach Sark.

I don't think sitting on the bench 1 year surprised him a bit. It's not that crazy.

no opinion on the guy, but during recruiting I did hear people WITH opinions say he was a 3 star QB with a 5 star name.

*OP - no way he beats out another 5-star caliber QB as a Freshman. Even if he was good.

Memphis Tiger - the 3-star with a 5-star name is what I saw. I've seen the National Gatorade offensive player of the year in person in H.S. and have watched a ton of video on other 5-star QB's over the years. I was not very impressed with his video TBH(good QB but not to the level people were speaking about him). Maybe his ceiling is what they are judging him on IDK. I do know; it wouldn't surprise me if he never starts there either unless something changes! Which for the young man - I hope so.

It’s not unusual for a true freshman to be 3rd on the depth chart behind two talented upper classmen. I actually think he made a smart choice. He gets time to develop and adjust to college ball without a ton of pressure. Like CV, will serve him well in the long term

By comparison, Vizzina is "buried" at #4 on our depth chart...

No one is losing any sleep over it.

Redshirts are still a thing.

Smart plan is for him to play in four games and redshirt.

Sep 4, 2023, 8:56 AM

They were not about to waste one of those four games on RICE.

Evidently his talent did not meet his hype. However, he did get big NIL bucks because of his name.

Unlike college football fandom, the Mannings take the long

view on things. Arch will play when he's good and ready to play. He has NIL millions, so there is no push to rush playing time, nor make an early jump to the NFL. Ewers is a very good QB. Let him play out his time and move on, and then Arch will take over.

You're a moron. Did you miss that Ewers was a 1.000 on basically every QB rating? He was just as hyped, and is an established QB who knows the system. But some kid doesn't bench two other 5 stars day one and you're already judging talent. Moron.

I might very well be proven wrong but my take has always been that he is being over-hyped because of his name and he won't live up to it. I love his family but it just feels like he is being set up to fail with all of the crazy expectations being placed on him.

It's better for him to get paid to sit on the bench. If he actually gets into games and stinks it up that money would disappear.

Re: For those of you that had opinions on Arch Manning

I'm not shocked. Ewers is the highest-rated QB out of high school since Young. He has flaws in his game (he plays really sloppy sometimes because he's so confident) but he's a natural passer in line with Aaron Rodgers. I thought Maalik Murphy had the highest ceiling of any QB his year and he's just a natural athlete. He's also spent a year in the system so starts way ahead.

None of that is surprising. But only an idiot would expect Arch to start day 1 with that talent. It takes just as big of an idiot to think he's bad already when he's a true freshman and hasn't played a snap. I don't care where you think football talent comes from. Genetics? Three of his family members are legendary QBs, two hall of famers. His father would have likely been NFL as well, barring unfortunate circumstances. Training? His grandfather hosts the most elite passing camp for developing young star QBs. Hard work? Everyone raved about him. I would be shocked if he was not a great quarterback before all is said and done. But Texas was a strange place where he'll be behind 2 incredible 5 star players, one of which is more experienced and yet has the same eligibility as him (and from what I heard, they've still been fighting for that second spot).

A decent number of us felt Arch was a project

Sep 4, 2023, 5:49 PM

It was pretty obvious to me he wouldn't be ready to play much as a freshman. The level of competition he faced in high school was low and the adjustment to D1 competition would be huge.

One thing we know for sure: Arch definitely isn't Peyton Manning. Peyton completely mastered the Tennessee playbook after 4 practices. No joke.

It was never really fair to put crazy expectations on Arch, but recruiting rankings way oversold his ability. The only certainty I saw in his HS highlights is his accuracy was totally unreal; pocket presence was great also. But his athleticism and arm strength remain unproven. Regardless, nobody who took the time to watch 15-20 mins of film thought he would hit the ground running at UT.
