The biggest problem in college athletics is not the money, it is the lack of transparency. I want to know how much we are paying these kids, where is the money coming from, and what are they required to do to earn it.

Open up the books so players can see what everyone makes and that would allow them to make decisions about their own worth. Some would leave for another school and some would realize they are paid fairly where they are.

Would love to see a reporter ask any head coach one simple question: coach, what is the total payroll of your team?

I am not an employee of the state do South Carolina, but if you really want to know then I will tell you.

The South Carolina Freedom of Information Act provides that all compensation for employees with earnings equaling $50k or more may be released. We all know what Dabo, Kirby, Shane, etc. make. We know what Lamar Jackson and Trevor Lawrence make. Why should we not know what Cade and Lenorris Sellars make? I guess you don’t think these kids are employees.

Why is it any of my business? Because I am one of the people paying them when I donate to IPTAY and buy season tickets. I have a right to know what is happening with my donation and if my donation is being used wisely, be it my school, my church, or my charity of choice.

Reality is that I can interview on the open market and see what my economic value is without my boss knowing. A player has to get in the portal to do that. “Serves him right” is a childish answer when we hear of a player getting in the portal for money and not getting what they thought they would.

In a transparent environment , if I am a defensive back getting $100k a year and see that some guy at Ole Miss is putting up better numbers than me is getting $75k, I stay where I am and keep my head down. The $75k player is probably looking for a raise if he knows I am making 100 grand.

Without transparency, it is a guessing game played by 18-22 year olds.

Personally, I don't give a rip what they make bc their pay grade doesn't help me one tiny little bit so I couldn't care any less what they get. Now if I got a %%%percentage%%% of their salary then I would be concerned but until then I don't care!!!

By all means. Let's do it for the children. And if you want to receive an accounting from IPTAY, ask for one.

You guys are ridiculous. Players get paid now. I dont care for it, but it's here. And few, if any of us, has a right to know how much they get paid. As for performance. Ive no idea why Samsung wants to pay him and no idea if there are any performance elements in the agreement but so long as he his not getting paid to sandbag, I don't care what those elements are.

Cade isn’t a state employee. Taxpayer dollars are not used. He’s compensated for his name, image, and likeness.

Yes. We need transparency. The clearinghouse is supposed to make sure these are legit deals representing actual products. All other sports disclose endorsement salaries.

Don’t hate the player… and all that. I can’t blame the kids. I’d take that bag of cash.

Well,

1. Dabo, BB and every other coaches salary is public knowledge, why shouldn't theirs be public?

2. Pro athletes salaries are public knowledge, why shouldn't theirs be?

3. Quite a bit of their money comes from donors. Why shouldn't I be concerned how my money is being spent?

We know their salaries, but we don't get to know what their private endorsement contracts are worth, unless one of the parties reveal it. Sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't.

#3: not anymore. All nil deals must pass the clearinghouse. Those deals must be an actual endorsement of an actual product. No more Texas tech oil money paying players. Common sense has arrived

The concerns you raise are valid in many instances. But, at least with this particular sponsorship, it appears to be in line with the true intention of NIL. Samsung has no affiliation with Clemson or the other schools that the sponsored athletes play for. So this is not an incentive to push a player to a particular school or another, simply an endorsement of their product.

This is a fair point.

I think it is also fair to say that Cade would not have this deal if he was not QB1 and wearing a helmet with a tiger paw on it.

My basic premise is still that transparency helps the players. Knowing what the best players at my position make - total compensation - helps me as a player determine my worth. Is my school being fair with me or are they being cheap?

Some schools may not have "roster money" but maybe their players are getting a ton of NIL money on the backside. Maybe kids should avoid "State" or "Tech" because they don't pay well and there is no NIL money to be had. How am I supposed to know all of this and where do I find that information?

If some school in Texas is giving every player an oil well, that would be good information for me to know when making a college football choice. It also helps schools know what the "going rate" is for a premier DB or TE.

That is a real long answer to a question that you didn't ask, especially with me agreeing that you raise a fair point, lol.

I almost never post anything anywhere, so it is back to anonymity for me.

I hope you didn't get one of those 'splodin Samsung phones from a few years back.

If that started happening again, that would really tarnish Klubnik's brand. I hope it doesn't--don't want anybody getting hurt.
