Brent Venables, the humane society, and a bunch of mutts named Roy

It isn’t much of a secret that one of the keys to Clemson’s football success is staff stability. Unlike a lot of head coaches across the country, Dabo Swinney doesn’t have to scour the nation each season for assistant coaches, and that consistency is a big part of how the Tigers have been in the College Football Playoff four consecutive seasons and won two National Championships. Usually the mutt in the kennel turns out to be the smartest, most dedicated and most devoted you would ever find. Just looking for a good place to call home. Great article.

Well everyone knows what they say about mutts. They're usually some of the smartest and make the best pets!

Well, I have two multi-breed dogs, and I think "mutts" is very offensive. This is the 21st century. Dabo needs to be reigned in. I hope Finebomb calls him out; someone should.

well instead of "mutts" the scientific name for your dogs is "mongrels" . Feel better now? ;)

I think the humane society should be rehoused as an Animal Palace. Prospective Caretakers should be interviewed multiple times to guarantee the animals don't get into the hands of gauche humans who consider themselves to be 'owners.'

Wait a minute: how could we ever use the word 'humane' to refer to the conscientious treatment of mutts and mongrels, if we're still calling them 'mutts and mongrels'?

Oh, Lord, help us! Where does it end!

Every dog regardless of the breeding are what the owner believes they are to him/her, and it doesn't and won't ever matter what names have been put on them through out history as the norm, a mixed breed dog has always been called a mutt/sooner. It could be fighting words if someone made that statement to you about your dog. Be assured your dogs are who you believe they are to you, and I don't think that when Dabo uses the term mutt, he doesn't mean anything terrible or derogatory about anyone's pet. It's just the terminology he's using to express what he's saying about his coaching staff, nothing personal!!!

I have two rescue dogs that are the best ever. I think some are over thinking Dabos comments; he does have a sense of humor and I truly believe has no intention of offending. Take is as intended.

I wouldn't call them mutts, but if you go back and read some of our players' or coaches' biographies, we definitely have a number of rescue dogs that have proven to be smart, loyal, and very much loved.
