Field goals: Is it time for Dabo...

...to snag an actual accurate field goal kicker from amongst this champion crop of generic ball kickers?..🤔... Like we used to do in the good ole Ariri and Igwebuike days....?
Wondering out loud.

I wondered why we didn't already do this....those 2 from the late 70s/early 80s were outstanding!

Gunn may still be good. He got hurt and tried to play through it. During that time he picked up some bad mechanics. I expect he'll work that out over the off season. I just want a dependable kicker. The South Carolina game reminded me how a good kicker can win games. Go Tigers!!! Beat Kentucky!!!

Gunn was smoking some hosel rockets into the Duke crowd. Was glad he did not seriously injure anyone.

can't remember if those soccer guys quit soccer altogether...or just practiced football when they could.

I believe Obed played both - at least the first season - and Donald left soccer and only played football.

I'm not sure its O.K. now with the soccer program because of possible injuries.

It’s awfully presumptuous of you to think a soccer player automatically wants to play football just because it’s your fav sport.

Where was the presumption?

Until it's asked though, who knows? Mark Bucholz played soccer back in the day, too.
Hauser has much more experience than Gunn...frankly no comparison. If there's no mental issues for Hauser, he may well be Clemson's first Groza award winner...perhaps multiple times. He appears to be THAT good.

I presume nothing...

...of the sort. Of course it's not "automatic" but doesn't hurt to ask around. It's been very successful in the past.

Well I would presume you would just float the idea and see if anyone wanted to. Called try outs…Bless your heart man you are indeed a special person.

Hopefully Gunn turns it around, but he does have a kickoff leg if nothing else.
Help is coming, supposedly.

Clemson commit sets national record
The Clemson Tigers have one of, if not the best high school kicker in the country headed to campus for next season. 2024 kicker Nolan Hauser’s been chasing a historic number this season, and he did it in Hough High School’s 52-7 win over North Mecklenburg High School.
Hauser’s only field goal of the night, he made from 48 yards to break the national record for field goals made in a high school career. It was career make No. 57. That’s with at least six games left to play.

I'm guessing they don't all "take to it" like Igwebuike or have the leg but it looks like you could find a couple good from 40 yds & in, if they were willing‐

If you have a NC caliber soccer team, I doubt Noonan would want any of his starters or solid backups to be doing both. That leaves you with a much smaller pool to choose from and if they have no experience, it probably doesn't make a lot of sense.
I have to believe there may have been some discussions but no good options available.
